Birth control pills, specifically combined oral contraceptives (COCs), are classified as a Group 1 carcinogen by the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC), part of the World Health Organization (WHO). This means there’s sufficient evidence that COCs can cause cancer in humans, particularly increasing the risk of breast, cervical, and liver cancers. However, it’s essential to consider the overall risk-benefit profile, as COCs also provide protective effects against endometrial, ovarian, and colorectal cancers
The classification is based on research indicating:
– *Increased Risk*: Breast cancer risk increases during COC use, returning to baseline approximately 10 years after discontinuation.
– *Cervical Cancer*: Risk increases with duration of COC use, particularly with ≥5 years of use.
– *Liver Cancer*: Some studies suggest an increased risk of hepatocellular carcinoma.
Conversely, COCs offer benefits like:
– *Reduced Risk*: Endometrial, ovarian, and colorectal cancers.
– *Regulated Menstrual Cycles*: Relief from symptoms like cramps and bleeding.
Yeah… pretty much all pharmaceuticals have bad side effects. I just think it’s disgusting how so many doctors offer birth control as a ‚cure all‘ for women despite how bad it is for your body to be on it for long amounts of time. But some people don’t have much of a choice, sadly.

Literally everything, or most of it, is designed to kill you. But there’s also cases of people abusing their body and living forever and then people who take care of themselves diligently and dying young.

This claim is misleading. The WHO’s cancer agency (IARC) classified combined oral contraceptives as Group 1 carcinogens back in 2005, not “now.”
“Group 1” simply means there is evidence that something *can* cause cancer in some circumstances; it does not measure how big the risk is. Alcohol and processed meat are in the same category.
The pill slightly increases the risk of breast and cervical cancer while in use, but it also reduces the risk of ovarian and endometrial cancers, which is why major medical bodies still consider it safe for most women.

My wife has long been suspicious of birth control.
To any women listening, please consider switching to Pads made from organic materials😬

Controlling access to reproductive health (abortion and birth control are healthcare) is how you control a population of women. This is horrifying, but not surprising.
*Yes, I know some studies show that BC raises some cancer risks, but it lowers others. Talk to your doctor to find the best precautions for you. Either way, painting all medicinal birth control with this large cancer brush is a bad idea.

A lot of stuff can possibly cause cancer. Like red meat, cleaning products, the ground itself (Radeon), burning anything including wood, vehicle exhaust ect.
Now if it was classified higher it would be concerning, but it looks like it is in the same category as most other random shit that no one care about being exposed too.

They finally realized that all the ultra-gay propaganda they’ve been pushing is going to yield way too few children for them to „utilize“ in the very near future, and even fewer new taxpayers so they’ve suddenly gone full-on anti-abortion and now they’re demonizing birth control as well.
Don’t be surprised if the next big thing is „condoms cause dick rot and nut cancer.“

Yes, staying on the pill and suppressing your natural menstrual cycle is not healthy…
