On Thursday, the head of the Canadian Armed Forces said Canada might be called on to help defend Persian Gulf states from Iranian strikes. As of today, Prime Minister Mark Carney said that call has not come.
„As you know, in this conflict, we were not consulted before it began. We’re not engaged in the conflict; we do not intend to engage,“ Carney said, taking questions from Japan at the end of a 10-day trade-focused trip.
„Where we are engaged is dealing with the consequences of the conflict, consequences that continue to spread in the region.“
The prime minister said he does not „necessarily anticipate“ such a request and did not specify what kind of assistance Canada would provide, if asked.

Why would they need our help? USA and Israel are doing a masterful job. I guess we our boys could supply Tim Hortons to them.

We`re broke, their coffee is far superior than timmies,,,,, but we could supply tampons I guess

This is as about as relevant as me announcing that the Gulf States haven’t asked for my help either. Canada has very little if any force projection. If they did ask us for military assistance, we’d probably have to call Trump and ask if we could hitch a ride to the area.

We dont have any anti drone or anti ballistic missile systems in the region.
We are literally useless in this war right now. Maybe we can send a frigate alongside the UKs carrier group to defend Cyprus as a token of good will to the commonwealth.

Since when Canada is relevant to the Middle East?

And we shouldn’t be giving it. Let them fight their own wars.

I wish they would stop floating this trial ballon. Defending allies in the region is the responsibility of of the US and Israel who started this unprovoked war. Canada should do absolutely nothing to legitimize their actions.

We don’t have anything to offer other than our men in uniform. Thankfully it hasn’t come to that yet, I hope it doesn’t.

Next we should ask Boy Scouts Canada if they had a request from the gulf state.. they’d be about just as helpful.

The gulf states are not Canadas friends let’s not kid ourselves they are in some cases countries we have economic deals with that’s about it.

What would Canada do ? We have no air defense systems and the Gulf states have better fighter jets than us.

Gulf states didn’t ask for help because they know we can’t help them. We barely have an army, LOL.

Do we even have capabilities to stop drone/cruise missiles?

Is Carney (or Poilievre) going to acknowledge that the US bombing Iranian desalination plants is an overt war crime and a horrible crime against humanity?
They condemn Iran’s actions in the past or during the war (deservedly so for things Iran has done), but they wont even acknowledge US/Israeli war crimes.
Sinking the Iranian boat in international waters and leaving all the soldiers die is also objectively a war crime.
Of course what was done in Gaza was objectively war crimes as well. But we never acknowledge.

Why exactly would we help gulf states? They involved themselves in an attack on Iran with their hosting of US bases
