Elbows up! It’s all because of the pandemic, I mean tariffs, ermm I mean one of the wars!!!
Well if you gaslight yourself into thinking it would be worse under the Conservatives it’s actually quite affordable.
>Nadia Bonneville says she’s noticed the difference in grocery prices this past year.
>
>“FreshCo or Walmart are the places to go, I find,” Bonneville said. >“If you go to Farm Boy or anywhere else, it’s just insane.”
She only just noticed that discount stores are cheaper than premium ones?
Taking on debt to afford groceries is incredibly sad. I feel for anyone in this position.
I hate it when people are like „yeah grocery prices are high but you just need to look for deals!“
I have already been doing that??? For years???
Prices are still going up…glad *you* never had to look for deals before though
I was at a Zehrs the other day to grab a cake.
$3.49 for a single cucumber.
Some guy grabbed one.
I was irrationally angry at him
We need Aldi to break up Loblaws and Sobey oligopoly.
bring more talented international students and send a few billions to ukraine – that will do! (ps did you guys see the ukraine citizens, including an intelligence official, in Hungary with tons of gold? you gotta laugh)
Can someone explain this? This survey cannot be accurate
“With rising grocery prices, some Canadians are consciously making hard choices to save money. A new survey from debt-relief firm Spergel found:
60.6 per cent skipped meals or reduced portions in the past six months.
53.2 per cent used credit/BNPL/LOC/payday loans for groceries in the past six months.
40.5 per cent delayed paying a bill so they could buy groceries.””
I have a good job and moved to offal months ago
Carney asked us to judge him by the grocery prices. What’s his approval rating now?
And oh – where’s he jet setting to next? Maybe looking to open a grocery store named „Middle Powers“?
Maybe blame the largest publicly traded, growth-at-all-cost, foods corporations that monopolize the market? Maybe Aldi’s could join if everyone didn;t think it would hurt Loblaw’s feelings.
Toogoodtogo- offers to reduced grocery prices a little.
Every time I go to grocery stores, I can see stress in people’s faces. It’s palpable.
I am fortunate enough to have a decent amount of extra money each pay cheque and I still can’t bring myself to spend $50 on a couple steaks. I don’t know how anyone gets by anymore. Something has to give.
I know things are getting expensive but can someone shed light on exactly how people are going into debt over groceries?
Do you shop at premium grocers? Do you not have staples in your pantries to build around? Are incomes so low these days that even budget grocers are expensive?
Ottawa residents? I think you mean Canadian residents
Remember when Harper had Canada as the wealthiest middle class in the world?
Try shopping based on the food guide and that’s what you need to stay healthy – and adjusting if you have allergies / medical condition that requires it. It’s bloody hard for a LOT of people and they can’t just “get up and move”. It’s not that easy if the job isn’t mobile but also for housing whether renting or owning. Also people need transit / walkable neighbourhoods if they don’t have a car.
Remember the grocery summit when the feds made some optical theater over getting this problem under control? That was about three years ago and it’s still the same shit government in office.
