Jesus H Christ. There’s *no* reason at all for us to get involved in this. We don’t bring anything to the table. They don’t need more platforms (or at least not the platforms we have), they need more ammunition. It’s also not our fight. We didn’t start it and its not our job to protect the Gulf states from the consequences of hosting US bases. There’s no virtue to be signalled here anywhere to be found

    2. With what? We have a couple of functioning frigates, practically zero ground based air defense capability. What on earth could we provide to defend them? Also, we shouldn’t. We should be putting pressure on the US and Israel to stop their attacks, not provide support. US and Israel should be the ones defending those nations since they’re the reason those are under attack.

Apparently I need to write 50 words to be allowed to post in this topic.

We need to stay the fuck out of this illegal war. Our military is not to be used for the convenience of fucking Israel and their bloodlust. They started this, the Americans supported this, and now *we* need to spend our blood and our money to help out?

If we sent even one single serviceman overseas to help this war then heads need to roll in Ottawa. Any military commander that pushed for it and any member of the government that supports it needs to be (metaphorically if you’d prefer) dragged through the goddamn street. We don’t want this and they’re supposed to represent us, not foreign warmongers that need large scale distractions to stay in power.

You’d think this is something PP would do, the CPC are very much pro Israel and way more anti-Iran than any party in Canada

Carney making us interfere has to be the worst decision in years. What business does Canada have? We recognized Palestine that didn’t make Israel happy, we can’t really appease Trump he brings tariffs and threats,so is this just to appease the Iranian Diaspora?

And then you have the whole ignoring India situation and making unpopular decisions Carneys honeymoon phase is definitely over

      >There are hundreds of thousands of Canadians of Iranian heritage,” he said. “How many are in Iran that need to be evacuated back to Canada?… Canada has no diplomatic relations with Iran, so there’s a lot of thinking that needs to be carried out.”

Huh I didn’t know the Iranian diaspora in Canada was so massive. I could potentially see Canada sending some military cargo planes to evacuate people from the area. Maybe a single warship to guard international waters from potentisl missiles? Something small and insignificant that looks like we’re doing something

    6. Given how countries are getting pulled in quickly I’d be more surprised if these talks weren’t happening. What role Canada could play is a big question mark, we don’t have a ton of anti-air assets to deploy, and our air force is unlikely to be able to make a material difference from a missile/drone defence angle.

Carney has struck a lot of deals with the Gulf States, so he’s likely hesitant to say no to any defensive operations that may endanger those relationships. However, realistically we can likely only provide nominal support.

Carney needs to be careful here, domestic support for participating will be (rightfully) very low, but his brand of Realpolitik may demand some presence to keep the relationships to the Gulf States open.

This government is desperate to foster its own military industrial complex and sees this conflict as an opportunity. It sees Canada as a business and dollars as the primary quantifier of success.

There is nothing to gain here for regular Canadians, and involvement puts all of us at risk, not to mention our service members. Joining this conflict further legitimizes American imperialism and exceptionism, not to mention MAGA.

    8. Say hello to the early days of World War 3, folks.

Obviously that’s a bit hyperbolic but if we’re to use history as a reference, America has speedrun through the Nazi playbook and, along with Israel, is on the verge of kicking off a full scale, multi-front war in the Middle East.

If Canada, along with the EU et al, decides to defend countries from the US/Israel axis, then that will absolutely kickstart WW3. It’ll be complete with an Asian front (Taiwan), European front (whoever Russia decides to get slaughtered by next), but seemingly a middle eastern theatre instead of Africa.

Nevermind the potential assault on the cusp of Europe, seeing as Israel really, really hates Turkey.
