Seeing some of the European countries completely reverse course to actively help Trump is disheartening and makes me really concerned Carney might do the same.

Fuckin hell if we get involved in another goddamn unnecessary Middle Eastern war because of the US.

    2. Doesn’t need a vote right now. Carney was right, it’s a broad problem that cannot be answered categorically. When and if the time comes the house can vote on it then.

    3. The leaders are dead.

Us/Israel are attempting to get the Kurds to begin a civil war.

Us/Israel are blowing schools and hospitals.

We need to stay out of it

    4. They’re right about voting on it, in several ways.

One of the many problems with Trump going to war with Iran is the lack of any democratic mandate for such a war. It would be just as wrong for us.

“Canada could get involved if allies asked it for help”, but we don’t actually have any allies in that conflict. The PM can’t say out loud that the US is no longer an ally, but the opposition certainly can if they have the balls.

More generally, a vote against this lets Carney avoid further unconvincing attempts to play both sides. He can just speak some platitudes, say his hands are tied, and get on with other things.

Who knows, perhaps this is even part of the new era of working together across the aisle.

    5. What I read was Carney said Canada will be involved if our allies are attacked but will not contribute to any military offensive operation.

The US blew up a school with 170 dead girls. They have been documented using illegal double tap drone strikes. They are committing war crimes right out the gate. I don’t see any scenario where it makes sense for Canadian military involvement in this shitshow

Remember how Canada made the wise decision to not participate in the Iraq War? Conservatives under Harper wanted us to join and thank god Chrétien didn’t.

    8. Huh, I wasn’t expecting the Tories to put forward a confidence motion given their polling.

Remember, the House passing a motion condemning the Government’s use of the royal prerogative will be interpreted by the Governor General as a loss of confidence and an election will ensue.

So I’m not sure what exactly the Tories are doing here.

Do they think they win campaigning against the government’s stance of „we will go to war when NATO activates Article 5 and only then“? That sounds… like a tough nut to crack for any opposition party, let alone one as suffering as much as the Tories.

Or are they trying to get Carney „on the record,“ just so they can vote to support the governnent anyway?

Do they think a game of chicken is going to make them look like they’re serious about governing? They’re threatening to take down the government while actively campaigning *against* an election. Some real interesting strategy here.

There shouldn’t be any Canadian involvement in that region at all. It’s not our business and I wouldn’t call any country there an ally.

I do not support Canada’s involvement with the war in Iran.

Canada should lay low and pour resources into the defence of Canada’s sovereignty, building better infrastructure, and boosting our economy. I’m not saying to turn our backs on the rest of the world – we can help to mediate, and act as peacekeepers to help civilians, but we should not be getting into another war to support a nation that threatens our sovereignty.

Trump cannot be appeased. We have a better chance of deterring him than trying to appeal to him or the American people (who he doesn’t really care about), in my view.

    11. Maybe someone should reign in Shitler more directly… I feel like urgency is required, since he’s suddenly been, YOU KNOW: „anointed by Jesus to light the signal fire in Iran to cause Armageddon, and mark his return to earth.“

Not sure if this is what any of these soldiers signed up for, or their families expected…

Not sure we really have the luxury of sitting having a big ol chin wag about it in parliament, they are telling US troops they are there to literally destroy the world, and bring Jesus back…
