Maybe the US should become more competitive in the markets, then they wouldn’t have to „compete“ with back-stabbing, tariffs, bombs etc. But they seem to have forgotten, what a „free market“ means, or even what the word „free“ means. As it looks, they could learn about it even from China.

People need some context. Every year, there is a conference held in New Delhi by a think tank in association with the Ministry of External Affairs. The summit is attended by Heads of State/Government and other prominent figures. This guy made that statement in that conference, in India. Not behind closed doors or a fancy media statement. This was said in public in front of various prominent figures from multiple countries and senior figures of the Government of India. The Indian public are already pissed at the current US administration, this is just adding fuel to the fire.

I don’t think that’s how it works. This is basically „I’ll keep punching you in the face until you agree to be my friend“.
Otherwise they do become a rival, and the US is just in outright denialism.
Most countries don’t need approval/denial from the US president – they’re going to do what they’re going to do anyway, unless you’re Venezuala at the moment.
Plus with the Indian government basically controlling the press, as outsiders looking in we get an extemely distorted view of reality. India were going to get the Russian Oil one way or another regardless, reprieve or not.

For the past 10 years the US has been trying to build up relations with India to over take China in manufacturing. Its only because of Trump they turned back to working with China.
