The IRIS Dena may not have been armed because it was returning from an international exercise in the Indian Ocean, and the U.S. Navy likely knew it because it was taking part in the same exercise.
That is why the Sub was nearby… they tailed it from Sri Lanka.

Honestly even if this is true to the letter with no arms aboard the Iranian warship, it is not a warcrime to sink it but it is brazenly aggressive and uncaring of human life considering the operation just started. The better way would been to offer they sail and remain at a neutral port till the conclusion of hostilities or at least an offer of their surrender, considering this is from the US Navy I think they might have taken it.

India is angry at the US for attacking a ship that was under Indian invitation. The US knew it was unarmed and where it was because the US was also participating in the same military exercise the Iranian frigate was. It’s par for this Regimes “toughness”, to pray on unsuspecting targets that otherwise have every right to be where they are and doing what they’re doing. A sailor, a warrior, with honor would have allowed the unarmed frigate to return to port and the sailors to disembark before sinking it. If these accounts are accurate, then this was a cowards kill, to be celebrated by weak, ineffective men. Again, if true, then the person who gave this kill order is a disgrace to the flag, the military, this nation, and has irreparably dishonored the memory of our fallen heroes. Pathetic.
