I would love to hear the Iranian public’s opinion on this. But hey, they have their internet cut by the Islamic Republic so we remain oblivious to what is really going on.

He’s not completely wrong. I’m not in favor of this invading because it would turn into a massive boondoggle to me clear. Iran has an actual military, the Republican Guard would likely fight an unending guerrilla war, and there’s a large dirty bomb potential that is a threat now regardless of Iran’s proper nuclear weapons capability. That said reconstruction would likely be much easier than either Iraq of Afghanistan as Iran has significantly more resources, education, and a decently large percent of population wants regime change. Lifting sanctions on the new government would help the economic recovery to.

A ground invasion would get a lot of people killed. On both sides.
It would give a concrete victory condition to Iran. Against a air campaign, they need to endure, and they cant really win. Against a ground invasion, they could win.
It would also give them the war they have been preparing and training for 20+ years. Mountains, fortifications, guerrilla warfare. It is going to be a quagmire that would make Iraq and Afeghanistan combined look like a picnic.

I dont think ground invasion is an option. arming local militias who are against the IRGC lunatics though…

Of course it would be a disaster for America, but also, obviously, orders of magnitude worse for Iran.

He would be wise to not underestimate the US military, but at the same time, a ground operation seems very unlikely. The most probable scenario would be the US dropping bombs until Iran surrenders.

US will bomb them, start a civil war, then claim a victory for the people as Trump leaves them to die because of the mid terms.

I don’t see how this ends without a ground invasion.
The Strait will remain pretty much closed from the drones and ballistic missiles. The gulf states get most of their food through the Strait and once interceptors run out, Iran will have a field day with oil fields, LNG production and desalination plants.
Once things start going really sideways for the gulf states they will start applying massive pressure onto the US / gives bribes to Trump in support of a ground invasion.
There was reports of the US arming the Kurds for a ground invasion but that turned out to be a lie. The Iraqi Kurd leaders came out hard against that suggestion.

I don’t see a full scale invasion. But I feel a partial invasion of the coastline around the strait is possible if bombing and civil unrest doesn’t work.
I could see a coalition of US and Arab state forces doing this and establishing an air defense perimeter in Iran itself, and deny Iran the ability to close the strait.
Without nukes, without ports to sell oil, and without the ability to close the strait Iran would be isolated and suffocated.
But that would be months away as a build up in Saudi Arabia/UAE for a sea invasion or Iraq for a land invasion wouldn’t be something you could miss.

It’s pretty apparent that the US has not trained for drone warfare since they are trying to get the Ukrainians to come teach how to counter it. With that being said, it will be a complete and total disaster if we did an invasion without any clue on how to counter drone warfare. If we thought suicide bombers in the previous Iraq and Afghanistan wars was bad it’s a whole separate beast now with drones not requiring human sacrifice

A ground invasion is far away if at all. But I honestly don’t understand what the US and Israel were planning? Are their militaries so incompetent to believe that just bombing would be enough for a regime change? If at all they should’ve done it earlier this year when there was a civil movement within the country, but now this feels like an absolutely pointless escalation with no one gaining anything

Excuse me for asking, but do we – or Israel – NEED regime change?
What both Trump and Bibi want is to crush Iran’s ability to build a nuclear weapon and to cripple its ability to produce ballistic missiles.
Can they not do that with a bombing campaign?
