The largest takeaway should probably be that when you’re using Meta (Facebook) AI features that the data all goes straight to their company where they’re labelling and processing the data to train their AI. This data also gets permanently stored and since it’s easy to verify that the data they’re uploading is not itself AI generated it will usually have significant value for some kind of training regardless of what is being filmed.

Therefore it’s both easy and reasonable to conclude that by simply using these products with their AI features such as „Live AI“ that you’re contributing to the enshitification and helping to train the models of a company that has what is essentially a non-stop history of not giving a fuck about their users.

This is likely to be one of the few available sources of data that can be reasonably guaranteed to almost be exclusively free of AI generated content. I really need to emphasize that point. This is very likely to be another situation where you’re paying for the privilege of being the product. I doubt Meta gives a shit about the revenue from the glasses themselves. They want the data and it’s easy to tie it to the real world (versus the bot/AI infested internet).

    2. These people are turning on a recording device, which sends clips to Facebook for processing, while they are having sex with their partner or looking at sensitive financial information. I question what „privacy“ concerns the consumers of this product have since they seem to have zero expectations of privacy.

I’m more concerned about the second part of the story, which is non-customers being further subjected to a surveillance state.

    3. Perv shades raise alarms when pervs wear the shades and do perv things.  We all saw this coming when it was only Google Glass in the arena.

Side note, it’s hilarious that every marketing photo has some hip, young person wearing these glasses when the only people I’ve seen wearing them were 2 people in their 70s.

    4. Meta’s privacy policy can be condensed into four words.

      „You Don’t Get Any“.

Who would buy “smart glasses” from Meta and expect anything around them to be private?

    6. People wearing these types of glasses are so *nerdy* that they probably have no intimate encounters to record.

Someone should get an extremely life like sex of Zuckerberg and wear the glasses while they fuck it.

Hell get a second pair of glasses and have the doll wear them as well.

A real danger to privacy, since anyone can record you at any time and even use that information for illegal activities, blackmail, scams, etc.

Lmao shame on anyone dumb enough to buy these and then have the audacity to complain about privacy implications. It’s Meta for Christ’s sake. I’d trust tobacco companies over Meta.

    10. Some guy was arguing lately that it’s totally safe since it has recording diode indicator 😂

What is up with this new “smart glasses bad” thing on Reddit recently? This is like the 5th article I’ve seen about it on Reddit this week.

The amount of privacy lawsuits Meta has people still think we not being watched or heard all the time is bizarre. The lawsuit is cheaper than the revenue they gain so why the hell not.

How would a person apply to this Meta data labeler job? Asking for a friend.

    14. I hate Meta, but if you paid money to attach a camera to your face, I don’t know what it is that you expected. It also is a violation of privacy for other people around them, who do not consent to be recorded.

In other news, grass is green.

Not sure why anyone would think your recordings are actually private when it comes to any of these mega-tech companies

    16. Be aware that if you buy these there are survivors around you everywhere that will forcibly remove you from your meta chomovision with gusto, you can’t identify them in a crowd, and you’ll never see it coming.

That tech has so much potential, I wish we could be trusted with it but there’s just no way, especially meta
