I see you chose a day when it wasn’t lashing it down

Looks great, and even with the rain I’ll still bike rather than sit in traffic. But I’m guessing many of those stuck don’t live cycle distance from work.

Ya if I could cycle and use public transport to get to work I’d do it. A 20 minute drive or 2 hour cycle and public transport.
Useful_Engineer_1792 on
Actually a rainy day with proper gear is not a big deal plus you’d be surprised how few days it actually rains during normal 9-6 travel times. It’s much preferable to using public transport on a rainy day at peak times – loads of people crammed inside coughing and spluttering at you.

Oh look at me I live close to Dublin City centre, I can afford an overpriced house and cycle into work whilst looking down my nose on people that live outside the city that cant use overpriced under developed transport system. Why dont these people just stump up the 600 grand or so to live on the southside of the city or surely mammy or daddy can help them out. They’re so inconsiderate to the environment too, most likely driving a car older then 5 years old and spewing out fumes and ruining our city.

Is this the rocky road to Dublin?

Im the exact same. Can’t understand why so many drive when there is zero need. A good electric bike and you’re away in a hack.

Whenever I’m in the car I’m zoned out catching up on audiobooks. Whenever I’m on my bike unless I’m blessed to be on a completely segregated cycle lane I’m too busy keeping an eye on errant cars to be able to zone out and catch up on audiobooks. The bike may be faster but I’d rather spend 1 hour relaxed vs 30 minutes absolutely locked-in.

If I could swap my 40 minutes commute with 2 kids fighting on the back for a quiet cycle I absolutely would. Kids in a bike trailer perhaps? Sadly the roads here are bad enough in a car, they’d be lethal on a bike. One of the major reasons we’re trying to buy in the town we commute to so I can cycle them to and from school, etc.

personally after over 60 days of rain I much prefer my car!

Do you not sweat on the cycle into work? Especially wearing wet gear? What about helmet hair?

Nice cycling next to the lad in the cycle lane when ye are stopped at 11 seconds 👍

Now add rain misery, and it will answer itself.

I’d rather be comfortable in my nice heated car listening to music then cycling in the pissing rain

We live in Ireland it rains and it’s very windy it gets dark in winter it’s safer drier and more comfortable
I love cycling but we can’t hold our shopping on bikes

Said this on the original post and I’ll say it again here, the inconsistency of that bike infrastructure is absolutely horrific. There are one or two sections of seperated bike path but most of it is just painted on bike gutters and there’s some bits with none at all. This really is not acceptable infrastructure.

Well my 100km round trip would be pretty miserable on a bike. It’s grand for those who can.
