I recall seeing a map similar a long time ago. I’m glad to see Latin America doing well

Is life expectancy just the average age that people die at in that area irrespective of where they spent the majority of their life. The locals with higher retirees from other regions would squew the data

Example: I live in New York for 70 years, retire to Florida and die at 72 those bring the average down or up depending. Spending most time outside of the location in which i died.

Could be even more granular in the US. There’s some significant variation within states.

I do wonder for the US states, how much of this is data influenced by folks moving during their retirement years.

Also not entirely sure how you’d account for that. Maybe if you had the data to be able to subtract counts of folks who moved to the state after the age of 65?

I have a hard time believing life expectancy is so uniform in Argentina, given the great differences between some of its poorest provinces like Misiones and some of the wealthier more developed provinces further south. Is this truly data at the provincial level in Argentina or just a blanket color for the country as a whole? The Argentine statistics bureau has a colorful history.

The border with Chile and Bolivia in terms of income must have one of the highest income differences in the World (percentage). Hopefully Bolivia under its new president can close the gap.

As of now, only three states in Brazil are still below 75: Alagoas, Amapá, and Roraima, all at 74.3.

The US… for a rich nation, has a lot of work to do. If I remember well, they don’t make it into the top 50 when it comes to the life expectancy ranking by country.

But I’ve heard Spain is less developed than Mississippi? How come can it have lesser life expectancy than developing countries

Any easy way to break this into infant mortality vs. everyone else?

Mexico ranks lower than peers in South America probably bc Mexican diet is full of fried food, coca cola with every meal, and no mainstream liking for exercise.

    US could be higher if

    1. The cheapest food available wasnt so ultra processed
    2. we lived in mostly walkable cities
    3. most importantly, had cheaper access to health care. People in this country don’t go to the doctor until the last minute possible because they try to avoid spending $$$ on doctor’s visit. So many diseases aren’t caught until it’s too late.

Wait, Hawaii has a higher life expectancy than most of the actual mainland US states visible? Thats actually wild lol 🤯
