Adrian Aviles spoke with CNN’s Erin Burnett on Wednesday, Feb. 25, where he claimed to have more text message evidence beyond what he’s already released about his late wife’s relationship with Gonzales. The congressman has repeatedly denied having an affair with Santos-Aviles, who worked for him up until her death in September 2025.

„Tony Gonzales runs his whole campaign on family values, saying that he’s some family man. He’s actually quite a sick man,“ Aviles claimed. „I have all the messages. I just released a tip of the iceberg of the things that this man was telling her.“

“You know, the guy’s a predator. You know, he’s continued to lie to the American people, his constituents,” he added.

Aviles and his wife had been together for 21 years and married for seven when he found out about the affair in May 2024. They separated but continued attending counseling, and Aviles has claimed she wanted to get back together, in part for the sake of the son they share.

Last week, Aviles opened up about the text messages he allegedly found on Santos-Aviles‘ phone between her and Gonzales, calling them „very sexual in nature“ and claiming they included numerous requests from Gonzales for Santos-Aviles to send him photographs of herself.

In threatening to expose more of the messages, Aviles said he only wants justice for his late wife.

„This is not a political thing for me. I want everybody to know that. I don’t care two cents about the whole political matter behind it,” he said. “I care about facts. I care about what he has done and how he’s continued to lie on Regina’s name.”

“This is not only about her, but this is also about my son and showing my son that, you know, we stand up to cowards. This guy is a coward,” Aviles added.

As Gonzales‘ primary election approaches on Tuesday, March 3, amid calls for his removal, one of his fellow Texas Republicans, Rep. Troy Nehls has repeatedly defended the congressman, saying that he shouldn’t resign, be removed from office or drop out of the race, simply because the party needs his vote.

“We can’t afford him to resign… let’s just see if he wins his primary,“ Nehls said on Feb. 25. He later doubled down when asked by reporters if the issue was bigger than politics.

“No,“ Nehls answered. „Not up here, not the way we do what we do in the House.”

House Speaker Mike Johnson also refused to call for Gonzales‘ removal, saying the allegations against him „must be taken seriously,“ but „you have to allow the investigation to play out and all the facts to come out.“

„If the accusation of something is going to be the litmus for someone being able to continue to serve in the House, a lot of people would have to resign or be removed or expelled from Congress,“ Johnson added.“
