      It only came with „regret“ after internal polling came in.

      For reference, Angus Reid recently polled on this and found 69% of Liberal suppprters opposed to these strikes. Carney’s trying to backpedal because his base doesn’t like this.

      Flip flop, flip flop. Carney bots will say this is a sign of pragmatism, when in reality, it’s a sign of having no backbone, and going where the wind blows. Sometimes it’s okay to say nothing until you have enough information.

      In this particular case, given the US gave no heads up to Canada about this, it would’ve been entirely reasonable to pause before giving out a statement. Or a statement saying something like, „we are watching closely and will provide an update later“ just to buy some time. There’s no need to react immediately with a strong opinion with every action Trump does

      Hopefully Carney is just buying some time until we have more trade deals in place and operational and to see how the midterms in the US pan out.

      There is no advantage for our government to antagonize the US although we may have to take a stand before too long.

      I’m not happy about Carneys statement but I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt for now.
      .
      Similarly, I’m not happy that there is another Mideast war but reserving judgement (with regret) about the decision to start this.

      Really like the Brexit vibe here and how Carney was actually in UK during Brexit make it even more ironically funny. Hope he double down and let the Canadian version brexiter get what they want.

      Notice it’s only about the nukes he’s worried about supporting.

      Kind of hard to support the dismantling of a terrorist regime you actually support, killing, torturing, raping maiming and imprisoning of women that don’t wear a specific piece of cloth, and also recognize the terrorist state of Hamas controlled Palestine, which is in turn supported by the Islamic Terrorist Regime in Iran.

      This is going to be Afghanistan all over again once the invasion starts only it will be worse this time since the Israelis and US killed what was essentially the Pope of Shia muslims.

      This will not end well for anyone involved in the ground invasion.

       „I need to say I support the strikes to not anger Trump, but I also need to act like I don’t support them because my base is frothing mad at the US“.

      In the real world most people ive talked to are taking this with a grain of salt. Lots of things happening right now. People aren’t freaking out about this like they are on Reddit. Canada isn’t even involved, most people are worried about their next paycheck and what sport to put their kid in etc. Reddit is a huge echo chamber with groups trying to push their agendas. I’ve noticed since the strike some people are letting this topic consume their lives online. I’m so confused because I’m seeing the opposite at work and at gatherings lol.

      If by striking Iran you mean to keep Iran from nuclear weapons, bring freedom to the people, stabilizing the region, removing a threat to peace and curtailing a corrupt and brutal regime Carney is for it.

      But if by striking at Iran you mean the cries of weeping mothers, the creating of orphans, the violation of international laws and norms and destabilizing the global order, Carney is against it.

      This is his stand. He will not retreat from it. He will not compromise.

      PP just talked about this in an interview and how he isn’t like this, about how politicians make this mistake where they think they have their voters locked in so they can start saying stuff that appeals to the other voters.

      This guy got a standing ovation for talking about how the rules based order is a lie. One month later, he backs the same order. He stands for nothing.

      Is this pragmatic? Sure, is it right? Probably not.

      The double think people are engaging in to claim this is different from the Russia Ukraine situation is full on 1984.

      When they do it, they’re inhuman monsters, when we do it it’s for the greater good. They’ve already hit 10% of the civilians death numbers in Ukraine over 4 years in 5 days.

      But remember, it’s the Russkies who don’t value human life.

      The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.
