      Still smaller than Texas or California. About the size of Montana. Fewer people than almost any other state.

      we should put the dakotas together as a compromise for adding DC as a state

      Less Senators.

      I say combine them all (NC/SC, WV/V, KS/AR & ND/SD) or give Senators to DC, PR and all the Pacific Islanders who are US citizens!

      I rather like the mountain ridges in this, rather illustrative of terrain.

      I think it’s just slightly too long, like if Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska had been just each been made 50 miles wider north-south, then a single Dakota would look fine.

      (Obviously, the territories were originally defined by political concerns, not aesthetics or efficiency)

      Fun Fact: those „Public Lands“ were given up by Texas so they could keep slavery before the Civil War. They would rather lose land then not own human beings.

      OP, do you have any information on where the landscape on the bottom was drawn from? It’s looks identical to the view from my dad’s balcony. So much so that I’m kinda creeped out.

      A while back, I saw a cool old Canada map that had North Dakota labeled as Lincoln, which was apparently a very temporary name for the state.
