RTO will definitely put a damper in organic population growth.

Rising cost of living doesn’t help either.

Unemployment is on the rise and there is doom and gloom environment about AI taking jobs.

No population growth (due to immigration) for a couple of years would be a good thing.

Maybe the country should foster an environment where people can make ends meet

Offer free day care like you did back in the Second World War and there will definitely be a change. But ofc, let’s instead pay for healthcare of failed asylum seekers instead

Late stage capitalism is literally stopping humans from procreating. Think about that.

I’m in my 30s and very few of my friends have children. Not because they don’t want them. Because every last dollar is being spent on basic necessities. Every politician we elect promises to do something about the insane cost of everything, but when the corporate lobbyists show up, all bets are off.

      Something needs to radically change.

You’ve heard of the 1 child policy, now get ready for the 0 child policy

    7. Government needs to close the floodgates for several years. Shut down the TFW program completely! LMIA scams are at an all time, good luck and elbows up trying to get an entry level job in our country too eh!

    8. Honestly if our population is decreasing it is nature’s way of telling us that our society is not sustainable and that rather than importing people we should be focusing on the underlying issues of why this is happening.

There is no incentive to really makes things better when we allow ourselves the easy way out.

    9. maybe incentivize Canadians to have children like Poland.

Decrease income taxes, offer incentives for having children.

Why can’t Canada adopt a US style country cap for immigration? 10 percent from Indian (20,000 pop), 10 percent from the Philippines (20,000 pop), 10 percent etc..

It’s literally a full time job to take care of kids… unless you are able to have someone at home to watch the kids and take care of the house it gets supper tricky. Daycare even with government subsidies is still very expensive. Food, clothes, insurance…. Taking days off from work when they are sick, being sick yourself when they get you sick. I don’t see anything changing unless we have free childcare, an increase to EI for parental leave and paid leave to take care of sick kids…. Even then I’m still tired from waking up in the middle of the night to tend to my kids, it’s a 24/7 non stop grind. I love my kids more than anything but 2 is enough to fulfil my life of being a Dad.

We’re pretty much there already. Population growth is like 98% from immigration.

How else can we keep having infinite debt without infinite growth? Without population growth, infinite growth isn’t possible. Yet we live on a finite planet and the climate is changing rapidly.

    14. having a baby in canada vs importing educated people already ripe for employment

i think we all know what’s more economically viable, so it’ll be that for the foreseeable future

unless having more kids is incentivized, which is highly unlikely

New research challenges the narrative that low fertility is an economic crisis. Data shows higher education and productivity can offset shrinking populations, suggesting governments should adapt social systems rather than trying to force birth rates back up (Or artificially force up population through immigration).

We had 10,000,000 less people ten years ago and everything was still fine.

Don’t be fooled, we don’t actually need the population to increase. The government and the capitalists who have them in their back pocket need more consumers to buy their products so they can make more money. It’s always about money.

Oh are we still pretending this is a mistake. Opps we made the perfect wage suppression mechanism so that workers can never challenge us. Ohhhhh nooo sorrrrrry

    17. Government should heavily incentivise having first 2 kids for working people. Take the financial burden off parent’s shoulder and see how things change.

Currently, only unemployed folks are having kids just to bank on the govt checks. The govt scheme should only work for 2 kids and shouldn’t punish someone who’s willing to work and manage kids. Our current policy promotes chosing between work or kids. Kids are optional but you can’t survive without work.

    18. Anyone that didn’t know this or is surprised by this has really not been paying attention.

    19. We cant afford to have kids when we are nickle and dimmed for everything.

Old age security gets reduced at 120k income.

The child tax benefits reduces at 35k.

    21. How can people say „the great replacement is a conspiracy theory“ If 98% of our population growth is non-white immigration?
