      1.2 B$ for a speedtest app ?

WTF is wrong with them. It is worthless and I not gonna use it anymore.

It is the easiest app to build. They are gonna regret their investment

They just bought the right to say when things are down or manipulate people into thinking they have better speeds or insight.

Increase in data center will increase demand for checking quality of those data centers. These sites have telemetry positioned best to go after that market. Smart move creating a monopoly on that market.

Unfortunately it is one the worst monopoly for a consumer since it ends up being a glorified marketing tool, eg. ‚99.9% uptime badge from ‚downtime‘, fastest data center badge from speed test, quality approved‘.

    4. So downdetector will be used as a tool to make excuses for fake outages around releases or broadcasts of someone’s opposition

I could make ookla in a few days. Even if you take into account the network of clients how could this possibly be worth that much?

    6. Without even reading the article, I know 100% that no good is gonna come from this.

    7. I used to play Quake with one of the guys who made Speedtest. Haven’t spoken to him for many years, but congrats if you are reading this.
