**Data Source:** 60 years of Billboard Hot 100 records and enriched genre data with MusicBrainz and TheAudioDB APIs.
**Tools Used:** Tableau (for the interactive visualization) and R (for data collection, cleaning, and preparation)
The dashboard shows the longest charting artists, top artists by number of #1 songs on Billboard Hot 100, and the genres change trend over time.
im surprised to see hiphop still holding strong as the dominant genre. I guess its murky with a lot of genres sort of bleeding into eachother across hip hop, country, and pop especially.
two cents, but this viz could use a little work. The record player seems to be just taking up a lot of space for no reason, the artist name fonts are a little too small and the typeface is too „crowded“ (idk the right technical term). It would be helpful to see at least one number on the top artist chart, like probably the beatles. the yellow background is a little rough on the eyes, maybe drop that to something a little less saturated/more pastel-ish. You sort of have competing datasets on here, too. The graphic title is „evolution of mainstream music“, but the „top artist“ bar chart doesnt seem related to that necessarily.
