This is nuts. I assumed Meta was doing a lot of data harvesting but outright having groups of people watching/cataloguing your every move via video, including when you have sex or go to the bathroom, is insane.
At this point, if you didn’t expect this then you’re not paying attention. Absolutely deplorable of Meta, anyone who bought them should return or recycle them asap.
Why some people reacts in a way that meta actually cares about your privacy.. no they don’t, they even know when was the last time we farted
Smart glasses are cool tech, but the privacy side is honestly scary. If workers are saying “we see everything,” that’s a big red flag. Transparency about what’s recorded, stored, and who can access it should be the bare minimum before this goes mainstream.
Honestly this was inevitable.
Every new camera tech starts as “cool gadget” and ends up as “privacy nightmare.” Smart glasses just make it invisible.
Real issue isn’t the hardware, it’s consent. If people don’t know they’re being recorded, that’s where it gets messy fast.
Tech moves faster than social norms, as usual.
As cool as I think they are, I will never buy them. If Apple releases a pair I may.
Obviously this was the entire point of making these stupid things.
The scary part isn’t malicious intent. It’s data retention, internal access, and how many layers of people can potentially see what gets capture

Why do they need people monitoring the video feeds? What justification are they giving?
Wear them in the gym changing room, I dare you. That would be a good video. With any luck, when the glasses are knocked off the glass holes head, they land upright so we can continue watching the fight.
So does that mean it also records even when the video function isn’t turned on by the user?

My genetic disposition to stay in my house and avoid people is starting to feel pretty fucking great actually.
I vant believe im saying this, but Russia was pretty progressive on this. They banned consumer spy devices like pen cameras decade ago unless you were a licenced detective or somesuch. Given, that of course it was done because there were too many corruption cases being recorded, but ended up pretty consumer friendly.
And how is this even legal?
It has to become societally unacceptable to wear those. We just need to (when opportunity comes) pressure people to take them off. I am certainly not talking with someone who has them on. Take the glasses off then we can talk.
