>“There is an ideological alignment with Trump,” Bratt said. “On gun rights, climate change, trans rights, renewable energy, wokeness … it’s all consistent with American right-wing movements.”
This is hard to overlook and ignore from outside the Province, though many seem to deny it from within the Province. When *scientific consensus* and *well-respected research* cannot be seen to hold sway over policy, it speaks to a deeper and broader lack of consensus of support for science within the population.
Many of us see this. It bothers me that few politicians of note are willing to confront her on it; though my Premier, Eby, certainly made headlines recently when he referred to the separatists as *traitors.*
>“The core people driving this are perennially aggrieved. They are always angry about something,” said Jason Kenney, Smith’s predecessor as premier and founder of the UCP.
Which is why I believe that attempting to placate Alberta is a pointless waste of time and energy. We paid billions upon billions for a new pipeline for them, and in return there was not a meaningful moment of abatement in their grievance-driven demands. What’s the point in attempting appeasement when appeasement efforts thus far have yielded *nothing*?
That’s what this ultimately comes to, isn’t it? The desire to use force to forcibly remove people that they dislike, with the discretion of selection being theirs when granted independence; and leaping at the possibility to pay less in taxes, *regardless of the cost.*
>If a “no” vote is narrow enough, Rath and his American backers could claim the result is “rigged,” necessitating the “liberation” of an oppressed minority—and its valuable strategic resources.
I don’t think the margins need be all that narrow, if the USA is willing to „*assist*“ at all. The clear majority of Ukrainians did not want to have territory annexed by Russia, but that didn’t stop Russia from claiming that the vast majority of those in the contested territories supported annexation, and using that as an excuse to invade and attack all of Ukraine.
Imagine if the referendum shows that areas *outside of* Calgary and Edmonton were largely in favour of separation while the urban areas strongly opposed. The clear majority of Albertans could oppose annexation, but if the USA applied similar logic as Russia they’d seek to take the whole of the province.

Steve Bannon et al would like nothing more than to crush us. This is like nothing so much as Russia’s strategy for the Donbass. If we don’t deal with this severely Alberta will sell us all to MAGA. I would really like to see John Rath arrested for treason to start with. His meeting in Washington about a $500 billion loan as start up capital for an „independent“ Alberta I’d quite simply plotting for a US invasion. Words I would have thought meant mental illness ten years ago. I hate this timeline.

Scott Besssnt , United States Secretary of the Treasury met with the separatists and called Alberta a „natural partner for the U.S“.
The same Scott Bessent who said he was responsible for causing Iran’s currency to crash thus causing the recent mass protests.
See a pattern here ?

You don’t need MAGA to take down Canada. Everyone is responsible for losing Canada if that day comes.
Some of these items could have been reduced more recently but it is true before we were threatened with 51 states.
We celebrate Black Friday while giving up on boxing day.
Our news covers more about the US than Canada.
We support and watch American sports League’s more than Canada’s.
The majority of the retail and food franchise belongs to the US.
We vacation more in the US than any country.
We can’t even remove DST as an independent country and depend on the US to remove the same time.

Canada will be ok. The vast majority of us are intelligent, and we can see through bullshit. The more they try the stronger we get.

Canada will be fine. We’re a strong, wealthy country with robust institutions, an educated populace, and a vibrant culture. We aren’t dumb enough to throw it all away. I’m not worried.
