Shockingly awesome photo
The lore here is crazy. Imagine explaining that to someone 2500 years ago.
War, war never changes.
Naval unit before and after upgrade
Our military owns this Trireme, it’s one of my dreams to row on it, they let tourists in 2018 I think?
But it’s kinda funny the military „uses“ such a memorable symbol of ancient Greece like this, more than the tourist sector. Maybe I’m just a big fan but it sounds like a great way to give foreigners an adventurous experience, while being told of how the ships worked etc.
If I had the money I’d make one with historically accurate proportions and have tourists take rides (or even row for me lmao, less need for fuel, advertise it as a day in a life of an Athenian citizen)
Ostracised due to corruption charges by the greatest Athenian and one of the greatest Greeks ever, Pericles. He was Laconian (traitor) and actually died in Cyprus against the Persians. Let’s hope this frigate doesn’t mirror his fate fully.
Impressive. And the one in the background?
Kimon is repeatedly said to have married or been otherwise involved with his sister or half-sister [Elpinice](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elpinice) (who herself had a reputation for sexual promiscuity)
I feel like they named specifically for this opportunity
French built 😎 (and better armed than the French version lol)
Civ 1 vibes!
Heads should roll that the Royal Navy isnt doing something like this.
irony or just coincidental symbolism?
We are talking about 2500 years beef
So which one of the 2 is it?
iran has the right to defend itself
r/civ is leaking
This feels personal
I think it’s wonderful that the ship was equipped with a church. The church tower can then also be used as a viewpoint and as a tower for measuring instruments.
Kimon, the founder of the city of Kition. Still a thriving town.
How did Turkey react to this? I admittedly don’t know much about it other than the basics of the feud about Cyprus.
Plus de titres que d’actions !
Holy Poseidon. Hellas being based as f since thousands of years.
