Next headline, epa weighs allowing data centers to dump wastewater directly into Dasani bottles for consumption.

    2. I mean if it’s just cooling water there really shouldn’t be too much in it. We’d need to see the specific labs on their effluent flow to know whether or not it’s okay

“Wastewater and stormwater” implies they’re also gathering rainwater to use for cooling to then release. Seems like as long as temperature constraints are considered it should be fine.

Could someone on the shores of Cuyahoga river please light a match every morning, and keep us posted?

100% worth it if it makes couple of people a few extra billion dollars while further ruining the middle class job market while suppresses people and wages.

Why are they not required to dump it into the sewer if it’s just for cooling?

    7. Lollll just the fact that they have to “think” about it is already a scientific failure

    8. Data centers use massive amounts of water for cooling. If we’re expanding AI infrastructure, we need equally aggressive environmental safeguards. Otherwise we’re just externalizing the cost.

      From the draft order itself:

      >It has been determined that a lowering of water quality of various waters of the state associated with granting coverage under this permit is necessary to accommodate important social and economic development in the state of Ohio.”

Absolute madness what is happening in this country.

What a fucking joke. People making these decisions need to be brought to heel. Fuck em all.

I’d only let this go through if there were cooling towers to let the water reach the same temperature as the body of water.
