McPherson’s in a weird spot in the sense that she’d probably perform the best in a general election & have the most appeal to non-NDP voters to grow the base, would likely be a shoe in for leadership if she ran in the in the Alberta, B.C or Sask NDP parties, but has a lot of hoops to jump through to win in a federal NDP race since large segments of the party’s base east of Manitoba want more ideological purity and vehemently resist the Mulcair & West Coast type candidates, even when they’re still firmly social democrats (albiet centre-left leaning ones).

I don’t think that’s the right balance to strike. I mean, by all means, say *that*, trumpet what Singh (and the NDP) **did** achieve but also say what *else* you think that he should have accomplished in minority.
There’s a reason Singh isn’t leader anymore, and it’s not just because NDP voters got scared of Poilievre and voted Liberal to prevent him from being elected PM. It’s not just because he lost his own seat (heck, Poilievre survived that humiliation). Even before the collapse, Singh’s electoral record was taking a party that had gotten 20% of the vote in 2015 and delivering 16% and 18% in 2019 and 2021 respectively: hardly the record of someone who could grow the party as MacPherson is claiming she can.
I understand not wanting to trash her predecessor, but there’s a difference between „trashing“ and „distinguishing.“ Why should we believe she can do something Singh couldn’t?
