i really doubt that there are 83 million shiites in iran… btw their leader was currently in the news, apparently his position has become vacant.

The Yarsani religion practiced by Iranian Kurds is very interesting and I urge everyone to look up their rituals on YouTube. They use music and singing in a really fascinating and mystical way. Unfortunately they’ve been oppressed heavily by current Iranian regime and have to hide their religion or forced to identify as Shia.

This is misleading because the (former) Iranian government considers everyone to be Shi’a except for certain ethnic minorities. It is (was) illegal to change or renounce one’s religious beliefs, so basically the government said, „You’re a Shi’a Muslim, and you’re not allowed to change that.“ The reality is that the percentage of Iranians who identify as Muslim is in the 30s or maybe 40%. IMO, if a non-Islamist, or at least someone moderate, ends up leading the country, the percentage will drop, and Iran will become more secular.

if the iranian regime collapses, there is no reason for azerbaijanis to stay in iran. it’s the shia propaganda that kept them bound to iran.
