If only Japanese educational institutions would take swift actions in case of bullying, sexual harassment and so on…

Bloody hell. Maybe we should start getting ready for stories of uni professors falling out of windows.

  3. Why doesn’t the professor cite Article 21 of the Japanese Constitution that guarantees freedom of expression? Unless he called her a bitch or somerhing?

  4. The comment in question seems extremely tame by the standards of online social media posts. He just said that lots of people are depressed by Takaichi, then made a joke about spelling her name with the kanji for depression in it.

Its pretty alarming that academic freedom is limited like this.

I don’t get it. According to the link, the professor did not even curse but made a twit. You cannot twit officials in Japan?

Um, this is disturbing, meanwhile Tsukuba has a professor being a racist asshole about international students and doing fuck all.

    This is how fascism behaves.

Announcement by Tokoha University. The professor has every right to post his personal opinion but as a member of the university staff, the university also has the right to fire him if his action defames the university.

    >[Regarding inappropriate posts on social media by a university faculty member](https://www.tokoha-u.ac.jp/info/260226/)
In accordance with our founding principles, our university’s code of conduct requires all faculty and staff to perform their duties with high ethical standards and an awareness of the mission and responsibilities imposed on them as an educational and research institution.

    >It has been discovered that a private social media post by a faculty member constitutes defamation of others.

    >Our university recognizes this as a violation of our code of conduct, which requires respecting the individuality and human rights of others, refraining from words or actions that cause harm, and eliminating discrimination, and we intend to take strict action as a university.

    >Furthermore, in order to prevent inappropriate posts in the future, we will establish guidelines for faculty and staff regarding the dissemination of information on social media, and will raise awareness and prevent recurrence.

    >Our university will strive to operate in a sound and fair manner, in line with our social mission as an educational and research institution and the public nature of our operations.

It is remarkable how sensitive supporters of Korean and Japanese politicians are to their idols taking flak.

Lee Jae-myeong supporters – and apparently Takaichi supporters too – have the same instincts that MAGA people do to *Shut it down.* You can’t just – publicly not like the Leader or their policies and get away with it!

No more freedom of speech in Japan after Takaichi become PM? I sense dictatorship will be born soon.
