It’s best if we just observe and not enter the field on this particular errand.

    2. Here is what he actually said, because its more ambiguous than the headline

      >“We have not been party to the military build up to this, or the military planning of this. So, it is not envisioned that we would be part of it moving forward,” he said in response to a question about Canadian involvement going forward.

      >“It is a serious conflict. In a serious conflict, you have to make choices,” he said.

      >Carney said Canada has maintained its “consistent position,” trying to prevent Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons, and stopping the “state-sponsored terrorism that has plagued the Middle East in multiple forms,” as well as supporting the Iranian people.

We can support in other ways. Like make sure no Iran politicians come here. Or seize accounts. There is still suff we can help with to change the dictatorship.

    4. Honest question, do we even have the military equipment to participate if we wanted to?

    5. Thank goodness. He’s got to know that would be a disastrous move among current sentiments towards the U.S.

This is a better stance than his earlier statement. Do not attach yourself to this Mark. This is quite possibly the only way you could mess up the next election.

The states said we aren’t friends anymore so not our fucking problem.

You get what you vote for.

    8. we don’t need to participate in this bombing campaign that the USA is repeating from 2003 with Iraq

    9. Good. This is not something any nation other than the US need get involved in anyways. for.. reasons…

Canada doesn’t have the military to aid in this war. We would get demolished by Iran

With the UK putting assets in the air, France committing to humanitarian support, and the US and Israel on the offensive, saying we support it but we’re not going to participate is going to fuel Trump’s freeloader theory. It will work well for the Canadian public though and that’s what matters

I’m not seeing any strategic advantage for us to get involved. Cynically, maybe getting more oil business from China and India, but otherwise, zero.

    13. I’m so confused, we support the attacks, will stand beside the US, but we are also not planning on participating? It sounds like we’re talking out of both sides of our mouth. I would really appreciate a strong and clear message from the PM

Good, no canadian should die for israel or the pedos in the white house.

I think we will all be happy if Iran does not get nuclear weapons and the people of Iran can the government they deserve but I can’t say that I’m enthusiastically routing for the Americans. An easy win will embolden Trump. Or more likely it will be a quagmire, or civil war or worse.

Im sure people are confused by his previous statement seemingly supporting a war contrasted with this statement, but it makes sense if you think of the huge Iranian diaspora in Canada that has been out in the streets lately asking for regime change, while also considering his speech in Davos about the fading of the rules based order. He is balancing the transactional nature of politics with the brutal realities of 21st century statecraft. Some of us may want bolder action (going both ways), but that’s not this guys deal.

    17. Are the Americans  looking for the weapons of mass destruction that they said were in Iraq? Maybe those sneaky Iraqis moved them to Iran! /s

Good. I would prefer for us not to send our people to the Middle East. It’s too messy of a situation and too risky.

What if the US invokes article 5? I wonder what his stance would be then.

    20. Standard_Program7042 on

In almost every circumstance I would be opposed to Canada involving itself in the middle eastern conflicts.. Not sure we need more examples like Iraq, Libya and Syria to know it doesnt end well or anything we can control.

I really hope we don’t get dragged into this. But the world is a tinder box right now with conflicts all over: Russia – Ukraine, Pakistan – Afghanistan, Isreal / US – Iran and a bunch of smaller ones.

I don’t think it’d take much for alliances to start forming and this getting way out of control globally.

    22. Best news ive had all day.

The Americans can go it alone from now on. „America first“

    23. I think Canada learned it’s lesson after helping the US in Afghanistan. Our children died there and the US called them losers.
