Hallo zusammen,

Irgendwann im September 2025 wurde mein US-Führerschein durch einen deutschen ersetzt.

Könnte mir bitte jemand sagen, ob ich mit diesem Führerschein einen Schaltwagen fahren darf?

Vielen Dank im Voraus!

  1. No problem it’s a license without any restrictions. The code in the field for restrictions/comments just says that you exchanged a US license for this one.

Weirdly I did too but don’t have it marked anywhere.

  2. As far as I know, yes, you are allowed to drive. I don’t see an ID with your driver’s license as 197. So I would assume that you can drive the schaltfahrzeug and the automatic.

  3. From what I can tell, yes. You don’t have any Schlüsselzahlen for your B licence and the Schlüsselzahl at the bottom of your driver’s license only means that it was exchanged from a US one to a German one.

  4. you got standard AM, B and L class. So you can drive a manual car.

The restriction for automatic only would have put the number 78 onto the licence

  5. Yes, you can drive a Schlatwagen, because you have no restrictions at column 12.

  6. According to the explainer below, column 12 lists all license restrictions, of which you have none. If you were restricted to auto transmissions only, you should be seeing the code 78. Without that code, it seems you have no restrictions.

For a cross-check you might want to walk up to a driving school.

You’re allowed to. If you can is a different question you have to answer yourself

  8. You alone know whether you CAN drive Schaltwagen. The only thing the document can tell anyone is that you’re ALLOWED to drive them. It’s possible to be allowed to drive them and still wreak havoc in the parking garage corkscrew with the constant stop and go on an incline…
