Source: Our World in Data. Tools: Python. I suspect it has to do something with the landmark telecommunications law of 2013 which effectively broke up the telmex monopoly.

    2. Eh, as far as I know people barely use landlines anymore. Even my grandma used a cellphone at 90yo.

It could be for two reasons, small forgotten towns with no cellular connection.

And, (the most likely) many Mexican ISP sell packages of internet with a landline attached (two play), some add cable (triple play). In many cases the “two-play” option is the only one available if you want internet.

At least that is my case, the ISP told me that I have a landline available and just need to connect a phone to it, something that I don’t plan to do.

Does this include VOIP or just POTS?

I still have a VOIP line for my house. It doesn’t cost that much and I like having a number tied to the house rather than to a specific person.
