Aldi Sud are the good ones right? I remember reading comparisons once and realizing we got the bad ones.

From my experience in Vienna, Billa is great I wish we had it over here

Surprised to see Metro Cash & Carry (which I never heard of) for my country, but it turns out it’s the same chain that’s called Makro in the Netherlands.

It would have been great to include the subdivision of Germany amongst aldi nord and aldi süd of Germany.
Because in northern Germany there is only aldi nord (wich means north in german) and in southern Germany there is only aldi süd (wich means south)
Lidl made an attempt in Norway but was outmuscled by the two corporations who have a food monopoly here. We really really could need some competition as these two giants are obviously fixing prices and lots of people are struggling to cope with the sky rocketing food prices.

Ok, so Iceland doesn’t have any stores.

Romania is a former market for Billa. They sold their operations to Carrefour many years ago.

No.6 is incorrect. I live in Italy and have like 10 Carrefours within 5km of my house.

Fun fact about Auchan, they’re still operating their business in Russia 🥲
If you’re used to buying your groceries at a Auchan, consider switching to another shop if possible, every little bit less helps

actually, i heard that Carrefour was also selling its operations in Turkey as well.

I am so annoyed at the inconsistency in the colour key! Stick to one for currently present and one for previously present!

Bosnis also had Tesco, or now in retrospect, at least a rip off. Or rather blatant brand theft. Could be mistaken

Now do Biedronka.

Netto opened in the UK in 1990 and peaked at about 200 stores. They all closed in 2010, most of the stores were sold to ASDA.
Just 4 years later they entered into a partnership with Sainsbury’s and over the next two years opened 16 stores.
The one near me opened about 8 weeks before they all closed for the second time.

A couple things:
– We had Billa in Poland for some time
– I had no idea Maxima, Stokrotka and T-Market are connected. I know all 3 separately so that’s a surprise.
– Carrefour is intending to reduce the number of stores in Poland as they’re not doing too well financially, and if a good offer comes their way they’ll just sell all stores and leave Poland. So it’s not yet outright selling, like Romania marked on the map, but it’s pretty much set to disappear at some point in the next couple of years.
It’s a shame, because at this rate if Auchan closes as well we’ll only be left with Lidl, Biedronka and Lidl 2 (Kaufland)

Tesco was in Turkey by the way. Not under its own name but they owned Kipa chain stores.

Looks like if you want to collect as many stores as possible for a single country, you should go to Poland.

There’s Carrefour in Argentina, too. Quite a few of them. I find it funny. Never realised it was french for some reason, despite the name and colour scheme, until I was like 20 yo. Just never questioned it and there aren’t really many international chains here. Or there weren’t, just five to ten years ago.

I would find Spar an interesting one. In the UK I only seem to come across them at filling stations, but apparently we have over 2000 according to Wikipedia. Whereas when I go on holiday to Spain, I see them everywhere but apparently they have fewer than we do.
