      While we beat Iran with the sheer number of incarnations, I think Iran beats us with percentage of population.

      Didn’t Iran just kill literally ~5 to 30,000 of its people after the U.S. government verbally supported the protestors, then do more or less nothing as Iran cracked down (for the nth time)?

      Not sure wrong detention is the first order problem there if we are going to zoom in on it…

      „state sponsor of wrongful detention“

      That term doesn’t make any sense. „state sponsor of terrorism“, „state sponsor of drug trafficking“, etc has a coherent meaning since it is a non-state action that the state is promoting. Iran is not „sponsoring“ wrongful detention, they are just wrongfully detaining people.

      So is the US.
