Putting Tesco, Aldi & Lidl aside, which supermarket would you consider the best?

We have Carrefour in Bulgaria, they returned a few years ago, albeit only with their small stores.
We usrd to have the proper ones with their massive stores, but they left in 2016.
Also, of course this map is just about a few of the main corporations. There’s other big supermarket chains here in Bulgaria – mainly local brands, which are even properly competing, for example Fantastico which has massive supermarkets here in Sofia.
And many other brands and franchises, obviously.

Pretty sure Scandinavia should have Coop as it’s much more common there than Lidl

Notice how no European supermarket exists in Norway. We only have *Norwegian* supermarkets, sadly. Having just one more player would stir things up a little.

Lidl is making a big push in the US as well, most of their stuff is honestly a really excellent value. They’ve opened a bunch of locations in NYC (where groceries are really expensive) undercutting competition on price by like half.

Apart from being outdated these maps are poorly grouped. Metro is a wholesaler, although they used to run real brand big box stores, at least in Germany. Kaufland and Lidl are just different types of stores for different locations belonging to the same company, Billa is just a regional brand name of german Rewe group, while Aldi nord and süd are completely separate companies.

Finland has Lidl, but it’s only the third largest with less than 10% market share. The two largest supermarket chains are local.
Wait tesco exists outside of the uk? Thought that was our own local brand tbh
No more Carrefour in Italy and, soon, Romania.
Aldi withdrew from Denmark a couple of years ago. Wasn’t profitable enough. REMA1000 (Norwegian based chain) took over most of their properties.
From France never seen a metro
No Carrefour in Greece for 10 years or so.
Metro isn’t really a supermarkt in NL more like a wholesaler
Aldi is no longer in Denmark. Shut down a couple of years ago
Never heard of metro in the Netherlands
Metro in Spain is called Makro.
S and K market in finland are the ones for us. We do have lidl but our local chains are superior to lidl.
I think u/AchtungGefahren did it better here: https://www.reddit.com/r/MapPorn/s/fJn4anh0sl
