  1. Friendly reminder GDP per capita is a horrendous metric for measuring basically anything, even the creator of the GDP metric warned against it being used like this. You can have an absolutely gigantic GDP and have almost none of that go to 99% of the population leaving them in abject poverty, or you can have a relatively low GDP and have a very equal distribution of those resources and have a quality of life many times better than a county with a much higher GDP.

    If the EU successfully succeeded in one thing: it brought wealth to a lot of poor countries that were behind the iron curtain. Ironically they seem to have forgotten, yes you Hungary and Slovakia, why they’re not third world countries anymore.

    You’ve got data from Russia in 1990/1991. Wouldn’t that be the USSR until Dec26 1991?
