Simon Shuster: “On a frigid day late last month, a Russian attack drone slipped through Ukraine’s air-defense systems and glided into Kyiv’s government district, heading in the direction of President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office …

“The drone, later identified as a Russian BM-35, caused minor damage when it crashed into a nearby building, injuring no one, the official said on the condition of anonymity. But the incident, which has not been previously reported, set in motion a chain of events that would allow Ukraine to seize the momentum at the front with the help of an unlikely ally: Elon Musk.

“Since the start of the Russian invasion four years ago, Musk has played an outsize role in determining the course of the war. His high-speed internet service, Starlink, uses portable satellite dishes to create a Wi-Fi connection anywhere in the world, and it has allowed both the Russian and Ukrainian militaries to stay online in the war zone, coordinate troop movements, and navigate drones. No other system can match the reach and reliability of Starlink, which runs on the world’s largest constellation of satellites. Musk has occasionally used that system in ways that have helped one side of the war or the other.

“In the fall of 2022, Musk intervened to limit the use of Starlink in Ukraine in a way that senior officers in Kyiv perceived as a service to Russian President Vladimir Putin. He argued that he wanted only to avoid an escalation that would provoke the Kremlin to use nuclear weapons. This time, his actions have worked in Ukraine’s favor, helping its troops break through Russia’s defensive lines in one small but significant section of the front. The reasoning behind Musk’s recent decision to limit Russian access to his technology remains unclear, and he did not respond to numerous requests for comment. The move to back Ukraine seems out of character for Musk, who has tended to follow his ally Donald Trump in advocating for a swift end to the war even if it forces Ukraine to grant painful concessions to the Russians. Whatever caused Musk’s apparent change of heart, the authorities in Kyiv are grateful for it.”

So the elite are seeing that putin is a money sink and they are fleeing like the rats they are.

  3. I had pay my tax for year to UK HMRC a month ago. Does this count as making my move against Putin, it would definitely make me feel better about parting with the money?

It’s just so fucked up that a private citizen like Elon Musk can have his own fucking *foreign policy*, with more influence on world affairs than a lot of medium-sized countries.

  5. Musk was quite vocally pro Ukraine when the war started. Then after some time he did a complete 180 and started repeating Kremlin talking points and shutting down starlink when Ukraine attacked Russian targets. Now he seems to move to away from Russia again.

My guess is that in 2022 Russia approached Musk with dirt on him from the Epstein files and blackmailed him into supporting Russia. But now a lot of the Epstein files is out Musk must have assessed his position and concluded that he will most likely will get through the Epstein saga with limited damage. Therefor the leverage from Russia over him is gone and he is back supporting Ukraine again.

  6. It’s amazing how much power that POS wields on the opposite side of the world. No doubt he moved to aquire it intentionally. Just like with Twitter. Or maybe not. He keeps me quessing.

  7. Or perhaps russia offered economic deals, like a share of the spoils (minerals, nuclear power for data centers, cheap industrial labor …), once russia „inevitably wins“/s and now it no longer appears russia can pay up?

  8. Dude’s reputation took a hit via Epstein connections. Now hes in damage control mode to be seen as one if the good guys. Regardless glad Ukraine benefits.

Maybe he sees it as a way to stop Tesla’s bleeding in Europe. Ha ha.

  10. Still it’s good to see him doing the right thing this time.
Hopefully this really helps to bring a Ukrainian win that much closer.

  11. It’s so strange to me, I really wonder why he changed his stance. Did Daddy Trump asked him to after being maybe, finally, disillusioned with Putin ? Somehow I have a hard believing that

if baffles me how it is his decision to turn starlink on or off in a war zone instead of the government

  13. Musk is congenitally predisposed to side with billionaire authoritarians. Siding with Putin was as natural for him as water running off a duck’s back.

But something has happened. Something that Musk’s elite „great man“ logic cannot compute: an entire people — regular non-billionaire people — have decided the course of events and denied Putin the outcome he believed he deserved as a great man.

I don’t think Musk really understands what has happened. I don’t think he can cognitively accept that regular people are the ones who ultimately hold the power to decide outcomes in the world. But even Musk has been forced to accept that Putin is failing in Ukraine. He is losing his war, and has driven his country to disaster in the process. China is literally buying out the Russian state, slowly, like a snake swallowing a rat.

So Musk has apparently decided that Putin no longer deserves the class loyalty of other elite billionaires. Putin is being kicked out of the club and Musk is the first one to bear the news.

But Musk himself is just reacting to events, in the end it was the people of Ukraine who did the kicking.

Still he is as reliable as the orange one. He has been “both sides” before.
