Yeah, but for that to happen, they would actually need to have a visa to stay, instead of kicking them out after 5 years. Plus making PR even harder to obtain for all the white colars who do qualify.

They mention 10% being a problematic proportion in Europe. That’s Because Europe took in a huge amount of immigrants from countries with zero cultural overlap, on a short time scale, while poorly vetting them. They also are looking to ease movement for Indians to let in a lot more, without caring for their native job numbers.

It is a simple problem for Japan to solve. Get people who want to integrate into Japanese society and work where the Japanese do not. I understand the fear when they see Europe and the anglosphere but unless Japan magically makes a ton of kids, it’s inevitable and can certainly be done in a safe and efficient manner. What Japan is doing is scaring off anyone good and will leave only the most desperate and destitute willing to accept their slave contracts.

  3. this piece of trash newspaper with the same stupid rethoric. As if you would have 300.000 new foreigner every year for the next 14 years lol. and those are new foreigner numbers, not net numbers as many go back home. Probably more and more in the following years.

in 10 years I don’t see as many foreigners coming, most will be back home and they will be once again begging for immigration.

sankei should be renamed to sanseito shinbun

  4. Well, if they go ahead with the change to make a 5 year visa a necessity to apply for PR I know a ton of people who’ll go home. Lots of people never get 5 and are stuck with 1 to 3. So they can’t ever get PR. I don’t think people are interested in staying in visa hell forever. And if that news breaks globally less people will come

more fearmongering, rather than seeing this as a possible saving grace for japan’s fucking doomed future

  6. That is still very low. In sweden only 65% are ethnically swedish. Who cares which country you are from? Just don’t be an ass and contribute to society and all is good.

Unless we face the fact that highly skilled immigrants are being competed for in developed countries and many do not choose Japan, the situation will continue to stagnate.

  8. Yeah, but it won’t be ubiquitious. Most places will be essentially the same.

  9. Though, economically, I understand the need to import people to make up for the population decrease (even though the biggest problem is that having kids is expensive, and their work culture makes it nearly impossible for modern dating).

But honestly, I don’t want Japan to turn into the EU, since their foreigner immigrant problem is basically screwing them over. Though I’d think Japan has more strict vetting than say…. the UK allowing the islamic brotherhood (an org that even the UAE, one of the most muslim countries, considers a terrorist group) to come in… en masse.

Anyways, is this a net increase or is it just the number of approved entries?
