When HBO’s top-rated TV show, The Pitt, wrote an ICE storyline into an upcoming episode, HBO had just one note.

“I don’t want to be in a situation where it’s a surprise,” The Pitt‘s lead producer, John Wells, said on Thursday. “And their response was, ‘Good story. Just make sure it’s balanced, and we’re not just treating the situation as if it doesn’t have other points of view.’”

Wells, 69, said he notified HBO about the episode because of its parent company’s impending multibillion-dollar merger. They began filming the episode in December, shortly after Warner Bros. Discovery, which owns HBO Max, announced its agreement with Netflix.

  2. Remember. We have to be fair to the masked thugs with guns roaming our streets disappearing people and ignoring the law!!!!

  3. Can’t take a firm stance on anything or you risk alienating part of your audience. Keeping the audience as large as possible is the only thing HBO cares about. It’s where artistic choice clashes with stockholder investment. Like, be real, HBO only cares about the bottom line. Let’s not act like HBO has any stance besides make more money no matter what.

Damn! I really liked this show too… Guess it’s back to re-runs of Who’s the Boss…

While fuck ICE, I do agree that having more nuanced storylines and characters makes for better television.

I feel like we’re about to lose whatever was left of HBO and that makes me sad.

Imagine if they asked for a balanced stance on healthcare for Breaking Bad. Yeah Walter is dying of cancer but really our expensive healthcare and health insurance system can do good things too!

  8. Is there another side to ICE that I haven’t seen in endless videos of them already?

Yeah I canceled all my subscription streaming services. They get more expensive, quality tanks and of course the bending of the knee to the orange turd. Aint no fucking way.

I’m sure all Republicans would have been fine with Joe Biden forcing Fox News to be more balanced. Right? More government overreach, right MAGA! That’s a core Republican tenet, right? Bigger government, more oversight, classic Republican.

I am curious how the crew of The Pitt will miraculously revive shooting victims left to bleed out.

What does this actually mean though? Does it mean that the show is going to make multiple perspectives look rational, or is it simply going to provide multiple perspectives but take a stance on 1 of them?

I don’t see any issue with the latter, and I imagine that’s what it’s going to be knowing the Pitt. The show has taken a very firm stance on violence against nurses, COVID, vaccines, and other issues. I actually think it’s better to not pretend like other opinions don’t exist. Make it part of your story, but take a stance rather than remaining neutral put the flaws on full display.

Mr. Diaz (the diabetic patient with mountains of medical debt) joins ICE because of the signing bonus and immediately deports the deaf lady because she didnt cooperate and tell him she’s a citizen….but he wasnt happy he had to do it. Actually, it hurt him MORE than it hurt her.

  14. I think it’s totally fair. They should show ICE’s point of view as they shoot innocent people as much as those people’s pov.

Lol If people are mad because it’s not balanced, they need to be reminded it’s a fictional tv show.

Which episodes have been political/ICE based? I haven’t seen the show but I want to watch those.

If the main character refrains from straight up calling them pieces of shit, I feel like that’s balanced enough

Just wait till Paramount takes over, especially if Netflix can’t come up with a new counter offer.

  18. Amazing how the right wing has spent years decrying normal, innocuous things like *including women and minorities as main characters* as some sort of „forced political agenda“ in media, so now they’re going all in on *actually* forcing their political agenda into media – in no small part because it’s so unpopular that’s the only way they can try to normalize it.

I’m sorry but WTF. Is this a spoiler or did I totally miss the ICE storyline this season?

  20. I too am concerned about the many perspective viewpoints of child trafficking, rape, kidnapping and murder. One one hand you have my opinion of them and on the other hand you…..wait there isn’t one FUCK ICE

Watch your step HBO. GOT universe is not enough to protect you, if you support assault, kidnap, & murder if immigrants
