  1. They really are all over here now. I’m waiting for the sitting NZ PM before calling it official.

The few left in NZ are welcome over any time.

There should be a law that states once you worked in the highest tiers of Government, you are not allowed to leave the country

You should stay and soak up the policies you helped to implement

the grass is so much greener even the PM has immigrated, set the example for us

  4. As someone who loved to live in NZ for a couple of months in 2014, it’s heartbreaking to realise that even my dream „what if….“ emigration destination is seemlingy going to shit with all the people leaving

  5. She seems to have been working in US.

What is going on with NZ btw? I keep reading there is housing and employment crisis. It was not long around COVID that it was considered to be one of the best places to live. It seems to have gone south fast.

  6. Why are people making such a big deal out of this? She has a history of living and working abroad and a significant percentage of New Zealanders live abroad.

What a traitor. However she’s super woke so who’s surprised?? Maybe it’s more a good riddance!!

This feels like *really* strange news.

She had her political career, it’s over now. She has other shit to do with her life, and I’d assume the area she’s moving to will help achieve that.

It’s the same reason 95% of people move around, but for some reason the comments are weird about this? Bizarre

I presume it’s because of all that post-Covid hostility to her from the right.

  10. Why is moving from NZ to AU a thing? I don’t live in either country. I loved visiting AU, but it seems REALLY expensive. I’ve never been to NZ, but I’ve heard that even its biggest cities are a bit sleepy.

New Zealand and Australia have an EU-like law between them where citizens of one country can live and work in another.

Historically, Australia has had a better job market than New Zealand, so many people in New Zealand emigrate for better opportunities.

I may be an ignorant American, but what is the news here?

Call me old fashioned but I really don’t like my politicians leaving a country they ran.

I wish we would elect people that actually represented the average citizenry and not the affluent that can just up and leave for better opportunities abroad.

Especially jf you were the leader, it immediately makes me distrustful of your priorities and what condition you left the country in.

Like shouldn’t you have left the country in a better place and so would want to stay?

Politicians should be banned from moving countries for at least a decade after there term in office has ended
