Just wait it out until midterms. You can’t reason with the Epstein Administration. Pretty sure they want access to our under-10 year old market.
This would set a dangerous precedent. In future negotiations, we’d forfeit flexibility on market access and be pressured to accept smaller increases to the base tariff rate. That undermines the core purpose of a free trade agreement. It’s better to hold off on signing any deal for now and wait out Trump.
Cool.
Let’s diversify as hard as possible and prop up Canadian businesses until the orange man is gone.
We can officially stop reporting on this nonsense . Take away the mic from the fool and move on.
This has been clear from every other trade „deal“ that has been signed with the US. They all involved one-way tariffs in the US’s favour. Ideally the rest of the world would have stood united together against this, but certain weasels like Keir Starmer decided to rush to cut the earliest deal possible, both justifying Trump’s methods and starting a race to the bottom.
I think the only method the Canadian government has left is to play for time, which frankly has probably always been the only method. Say we were to sign a deal, do you really think when a Democrat comes to power in 2029, that they’ll apologize and reverse such a favourable deal? I think not. All we can really hold out for is that the potential economic fallout of Trump pulling out of CUSMA would be enough to deter him from doing it.
If we are unable to walk away from the table during negotiations, then we will be forced to accept whatever the US demands.
>Canada’s finance minister says the US is „unlikely“ to lift tariffs.
…he makes this prediction [because the US Trade Representative leading the US delegation to the CUSMA negotiations has literally said the US‘ position is that it will not be lifting tariffs](https://www.ipolitics.ca/2026/02/25/trumps-trade-czar-says-canada-must-accept-tariffs-help-reshore-american-jobs/).
How about this…
We move away from that market place…and focus completely on the rest of the world .
Let’s create trade with countries that don’t penalize our trading goods. I’m pretty sure every country would want high quality aluminum, steel, oil, water, raw minerals, uranium, wood.
Let’s stop catering to corporations quitting Canada that continue to try to push the American agenda.
