Israel Aerospace Industries delivered its BlueWhale autonomous submarine to the German Navy in a deal worth tens of millions of euros. The submarine is unmanned, about 10.9 meters long, and is mainly used for intelligence gathering, detecting enemy submarines, and helping with mine clearance and surveillance.
It can dive to 300 meters and stay at sea for weeks, using advanced radar and electronic systems. The submarine was developed with German company Atlas and tested in the Baltic Sea, where Germany faces threats to underwater communication cables.
This is the first international sale of BlueWhale, and other countries like Greece are also interested in buying it. The deal shows growing defense cooperation between Israel and Germany and could lead to more future purchases.
