Yeah this is the kind of trick they play on TV too. You have these talk shows and they go out to eat and the hosts say it’s not expensive when it usually is and you don’t get a lot of food either. It’s like that meme of the dog in the burning house saying this is fine.
The media is doing whatever it can to get people to think things are fine when in reality things could be better and they were.
„A rich inner life without financial wealth — maps onto what the Japanese called 清貧 (seihan), a classical Chinese/Japanese ideal meaning „honorable poverty“ or „pure frugality.“ It was romanticized heavily in the pre-war press as a contrast to what nationalists portrayed as decadent Western materialism,“
Not quoted from the original article, but this is normal 1900s era phoenmoun. It is interesting to see the same thing revival on news.
Edit: typo
Dude says he did alright working at an art gallery during the bubble era. And made money from selling his parents‘ house that he inherited.
So yeah, enjoy your tight-fisted lifestyle. The next generation working class won’t have ‚bubble era‘ savings to fall back on – with fewer working harder to suppliment the pension/life style of his generation.
I wonder why the media in Japan is always talking about how it’s fine to be poor and how it’s good to keep working after you retire until your last day on earth. I wonder why.
Japanese seem to lead such poor lives regardless. The sad desperate people in supermarkets everyday in Tokyo is weird, as if they have nothing else to do.
Remind me, what’s the Japanese word for „cope“?
its not kechi when you have no option
Same vibes as reporting „living in apartments without baths/showers becoming the new trend“ no it’s not it’s cause they have no money
Japanese propaganda machine working overtime.
“It’s fun being poor!”
Uh huh. 🙄
Oh yes! A bunch of people just hoovering around the bento corner inside grocery store just waiting for that 30%-50% sticker so they can live a rich lifestyle! 😋
Let’s make Japan poor again!
40000 pension?! In Japan?!
Is this a joke?
