Too little, too late. They already admitted they’re data-harvesting and building profiles on people in a previous attempt to damage control. Delaying the age verification rollout doesn’t change that.

My friend group already canceled Nitro subs and deleted our accounts.

    2. Generational bag fumble. In what world did they think this would go over well? Timing makes it wildly obvious too

      A) Multiple senators in multiple states introducing OS level age ranges/checks AT THE SAME TIME

      B) Zuckfuck begging for OS level age ranges during his deposition

      C) Articles from Major Papers arguing we should do this to “save kids.”

      D) Flock and Ring

Why do they think we are idiots?

‚delayed‘ = wait until later, maybe they’ll forget, then quietly do it again

Left Discord within 10 minutes of their announcement. Switched and will never look back.

Too late for damage control. I already deleted my account. Others should do the same.

    6. Too late, already deleted my account – just got the 2-week confirmation that they finally went through with the deletion (I guess they want to give you time to change your mind) yesterday – and uninstalled the Linux flatpak, removed it from my Android tablet and deleted the bookmarks.

*blows a raspberry towards their HQ in San Fransisco*

    7. Classic door in the face sales tactic. Called it from the start. They’re going to do it again later and the outcry will be far less because it’ll be old news. Just like Netflix and its password sharing.

It definitely wasn’t because the company that were going to use for ID verification got hacked before that even started using it. Nooo, they’re definitely not delaying because they’re looking for a new partner for ID verification. It was definitely because the backlash /s

    9. Yeah, too late. Once a company introduces features like this, I’m gone forever. Let Discord die and remain only as a cautionary tale.

    10. proof once again that bullying companies works. we have more power than we think!

„Delays“ means nothing. It’s still coming. What’s gone is the userbase’s trust

    12. Discord’s board needs to fire the CEO, claw back every %@#$ing penny in his compensation package and do everything in their power to make sure he never works in tech again.

    13. My Nitro (4+ years) is canceled, and it’s staying canceled. It’s too late for them to do damage control. People are already looking into alternatives. It’s crazy how what used to be a great app can make so many terrible decisions in a short time.

    14. Future headline: Discord & Facebook require users to submit DNA profiles in newest EUA.

Ok but this is just a delay. Anything but a full reversal is unacceptable

LMAO, the most generic and predictable response. Reminds me of CollegeHumor’s CEO series.

I’ll be deleting my account and moving elsewhere.

You don’t “back off” by moving to another service that is secretly doing the same thing.

    18. In no uncertain terms they will almost definitely destroy anyone’s lives that enroll in this verification feature

    19. „delay“ is not the same as „not going to do it“, so keep going with the backlash.

    20. Do not forgive them

Do not go gently into the night.

Delete the app, accounts, etc until they find some legally enforceable way to ensure they won’t try to pull this stunt

Right now any ‚we are sorry‘ should be understood as ‚we are sorry we told you what we are going to do‘

The very fact that they considered pushing the button should tell you they can’t be trusted.

      Pound sand discord.

      Delete the app.

    21. Wow. Claiming to do it globally because of the world going in that direction, like well it’s inevitable that it will be required everywhere soon is just… Depressing as hell. Also, way too little, too late. Canceled my nitro when it happened and once I’ve found a replacement that works for what I need, I’ll be moving on elsewhere so I never have to open the app again.

I hope people quit discord regardless to send a message to any big corp who wants to try this.

    23. I’ve never used Discord but after seeing the age verification and Peter Thiel I blocked all of their domains on my network. I don’t want any of the games I play to send them a single breadcrumb.
