As an Australian, I’m surprised by this. Not that our economy is less complex than other developed nations, but that it’s ranked lower than many developing nations.
The reasons are obvious: we are over-reliant on resources (mining) and agriculture, which are great for $$$, but as a result, manufacturing and research in many areas have been de-prioritised over the recent decades.
