Hypothesis: Netflix knows the deal with be blocked (zero chance Trump’s crony admin approves it). But by taking on this fight they 1. gain approval of Americans who hate Trump (most) and the rest of the world who mostly hates Trump, 2. Lose the „breakup fee“ of a few billion but that is worth the benefit of delaying Paramount from getting them sooner, 3. Paramount will have had to take on so much debt to outbid Netflix and also will lose a ton of customers once people realize they are pro-Trump (see point #1), so their insolvency will benefit Netflix in the long-term anyway
