If satellite reentries are going to be a problem, could companies just put some kind of thruster or rocket on the satellite so when it reaches its end of life, it could be propelled out instead of back into our atmosphere?

This article is really more about reentry of debris than rocket launches. It would be interesting to compare just the launch portion of the pollution from different types of rocket fuel.

This is why big reusable spacecraft like the Shuttle Orbiter were better ideas than some would have you believe. Collect the satellites and bring them down gently to be refurbished.

Study doesn’t state the metric tonnage of land based pollution sources that find their way to the upper atmosphere. We know from the fluorocarbon attack on the ozone layer that it must be substantial. Is pollution from deorbitung 2nd stages and satellites more than 0.0001% of total pollution up there?
