I know it’s been said, but I do not understand their opposition to helping in a freedom fight. The mind boggles. Like, if it was about the cost, ok, I don’t agree but I understand. This though. What is it…

Someone should tell her that borderline supporting Russia in its war against a European country isnt a good look for the party

    3. SERGIONOLAN on

She really is showing Sinn Fein are Russian puppets and traitors to Ireland.

They should never get into power.

How can they see what the Russians are doing to Ukraine and oppose the EU helping them!

    4. Massive support in this sub for backing Ukraine with funds for war as opposed to just humanitarian aid. Also massive support in this sub for Ireland to drop its neutrality. However if we were to discuss funding Palestinian resistance or else justify the IRAs war against Britain this sub would also collectively shite themselves.

    5. Where’s the opposition from the government to EU members funding Russia through the continued purchase of oil and gas?

How about EU members using Russia to reprocess nuclear fuel?

Loaning Ukraine money while channelling money to Russia is absolutely absurd, but aye, Sinn Féin are the problem

      Morons

“The full international effort has to be around diplomacy, peacemaking.”

It’s this mentality that emboldened Putin to invade Georgia, seize Crimea and then invade the Ukrainian mainland.

He is attempting to assert his legacy through brutality, round table discussions and well worded statements aren’t going to change his trajectory.

      Pro Russia SF.

At a time when we needed a serious viable opposition to the FFG greed/jobs for the lads machine, SF just shot themselves in both feet with this pro Russian stance.

FFG are going nowhere as long as that’s the opposition.

      Muppets.

Defending (or ignoring) Russian aggression vs Ukraine and Argentina’s in Falklands is such a great litmus test to separate powers from actual vocal anti-imperialists.

    9. ThinWhiteDuke00 on

Wait, Sinn Fein which includes Chris Hazzard who spends most of his time tweeting support for China, the USSR and Cuba are at their heart tankies.

      I am very shocked.

    10. Sneakywulf1984 on

This is why I will never vote for them. Mary Lou is a cow and the sinn fein party is full of morons

They weren’t complaining when millions came from the US in the 80s 90s and 2000s. As a republican sympathiser said to me once, enough money was sent that would buy both ireland and England.

    12. Dull_Brain2688 on

Is it some sort of remnant of 70s student politics (which she is too young to have been involved in) or am just sheer contrarianism? Either way it’s a shit look.

    13. OneField985 on

Yeah 90 billion to a corrupt country who could possibly not agree with that

    14. smudgeonalense on

SF aren’t anti-imperial, Anti-Westernism is the only thing they’re consistent on. If Israel had aligned themselves with the Soviets back in the day, SF would probably be Zionists now. I await the downvotes.

    15. ImperialSattech on

Ukraine: „Hey, this imperialist country just invaded us and started bombing our people, can you give us weapons so we can fight them off?“
      EU: „Sure, here you go“
SF: „How dare evil NATO prolong this war, Ukraine should really just give up“

If these types were around in the 40’s, they’d politely ask Hitler to stop killing people and when he refused they’d shrug and do nothing, moral cowardice.

    16. dimebag_101 on

Like I will admit I’ve not read into this deal but what are the eu getting for this. Will it ever be repaid? Access to minerals not gonna happen they already signed a deal with USA. (Which btw regardless of what they say will put them at odds with Russia). The EU would hand over this money with next to no say in the outcome of this war. Like military equipment who’s economy that helps? You may as well hand the money to USA.

    17. Imperial_Tiramisu on

I read that as ”McDonald’s defends Sinn Féin”. 😂

Like, why would McDonald’s do that? Will Burger King and KFC come out supporting FF and FG?

Irish politics is so depressing. On one hand you have the FFG mob (tribunals, brown envelopes, landlord TD’s, cute hoorism, corruption etc), the only possible alternative up to now are Sinn Fein and they have proven themselves to be morons, dumb as a box of rocks morons.

“spending tens of billions more of taxpayers’ money on more and more weaponry is not the way to resolve this conflict … The full international effort has to be around diplomacy, peacemaking.”

fuck me its infuriating to hear this shit, like if someone is beating you to death „ah sure give em a little kiss and make friends“.

SF are too creepily in support of Russia.

The social democrats must be delighted with Mary Lou, she is gifting them SF voters.

edit: just wanted to add IMHO, the Irish people are overwhelmingly in support of Ukraine and its right to defend itself.

    19. Smackmybitchup007 on

I read McDonalds, and was thinking they’re being a bit harsh for a sh1tty fast food restraunt.

    20. dropthecoin on

      > spending tens of billions more of taxpayers’ money on more and more weaponry is not the way to resolve this conflict

Quite a statement given the history of the Provos.

    21. So what is the answer then Mary Lou?

I listened to her speak on RTE and she has absolutely no answer to Ukraine whatsoever other than to be a contrarian. She opposes more funding and weapons for Ukraine and says the only answer is diplomacy.

How can you come to a diplomatic solution with Putin’s Russia?

They want all of Ukraine. They actively deny Ukraine’s right to exist and have waged a brutally inhumane war against them for literally years now. God only knows what would have happened had Ukraine actually collapsed and things like Bucha could have been repeated across the entire country.

Directly supporting Ukraine is directly supporting Europe’s, the EU’s and Ireland’s best interests and her attitude on this is bordering on being pro-Putin.

    22. PROINSIAS62 on

People who vote for SF should wise up to their communist and Russian love affair and their historical anti-EU policies which are not too far below the surface.

    23. ScreamingmadJoe on

Look at the main opposition party dawg get me out of this fuck ass political system

    24. Pure-Ice5527 on

SF.. the pro Russian and anti EU party, I can’t understand how they do so well in the survey polls but thankfully people stop short of voting them in at the real polls.
We need a proper alternative to FF FG.. desperately

    25. SF now not an option as well. It’s ridiculous that there is no decent option to vote for if ne wants a non church related, nonturbo capitalist, non Russian sub, but liberal and social pro eu party to vote for.

    26. Im sick to death of Irish taxes being given away for other countries to pay politicians billions.

    27. Galacticmetrics on

They are playing geo politics here for context Russia has supported hamas, and Ukraine has recieved military aid from Israel.
