As much as I love seeing Canada do well at the olympics it’s not even in my top ten concerns about Canada anymore.
As someone who grew up as a multi sport athlete playing competitive sports year-round, I can honestly say that while I watch the social and economic fabric of our country disintegrate in real time – I’m not particularly concerned about where we are in the medal standings.
Disagree. Us not winning will just inspire future generations to try harder. Winter sport is literally in our blood.
The young child who got woken up early by their dad to cheer for Canada this morning isn’t going to think, ‚Oh we didn’t beat the US, I’m not interested in playing hockey anymore.‘
They’re thinking holy shit my dad is a lunatic for waking me up at 4:30 to watch this thing. Wait a second, this must be an important thing to wake up this early for.
Viewership numbers for the gold medal match in Canada are insane for such an early game. The love of hockey (& all winter sport) isn’t going anywhere.
