The Customs department needs to confiscate them before they get to the shops.
No! Let them enforce the rules of the road that are already in place
The Government should.
Right?? I have same opinions. But the government wants that tax mate
It’s not illegal to sell them… it would be absolutely impossible to target suppliers under current laws!
On what grounds. It’s not illegal to sell scooters
Customs need to really clampdown and confiscate these coming into the country from suppliers before they reach the shops, outlets, sellers, buyers etc
Doing anything at all would help. Half the problems we have are from laws not being enforced.
I was talking to one of the lads from the scooter shops before. The suppliers are providing different stock than the sticker my suggest.
All the stickers will say the power rating, in compliance with the law, but what the battery outputs, or can output with a modification can be substantially higher.
How about, I dunno, AGS do their jobs?
800 quid?
I feel like there’s a used Micra out there for that much and you won’t get rained on.
Absolutely!
Why not ban cars that can go faster then 120 KPH,always wondered why cars cant be restricted,I remember years mopeds had limiters on them of something like 50KPH
Guards should be let do their jobs and confiscate them regardless of whether some scumbag gets injured in the process
This morning I drove through a green light to be confronted on my drivers side by a kid on one of these who just sailed out into the junction through his own red light.
Luckily I was not travelling at any speed (I’d been sitting at red and had just taken off).
Scooter boy attempted to swerve (I’d come to a stop when I saw him) and almost went on his arse in front of and to the left of me.
The clown then righted himself and went off ahead of me, down the wrong side of the road.
Busy enough traffic and lots of people out walking about. No fucks given by scooter boy to his own or anyone else’s personal safety.
I swiped it left
And ban a form of transport for other people who can’t rely on buses, pay for taxis or afford the rip off car insurance prices? How about the guards do their jobs and prevent those riding carelessly? You’ll just have people who abide by the law off the road, scumbags riding around and nothing will change. They’ll get them somehow. 🙄
This post after 7 people die on Irish roads.
I don’t use them but fuck me this is coming across like trying to ban „fire“
Guy in work walked into a bike / scooter shop in Dublin City. Said “I’m interested in a scooter”. Employee spoke for 5 minutes straight on the different options and straight away on how to remove the limiters on each.
I’m regularly being overtaken by drivers doing 150 kmph and more. Should Gardai go after the suppliers of these vehicles?
No. It’s an electric motorcycle. If anyone is using it without licence and registration on public road, there are clear rules to apply and enforce.
to be honest i have an ebike goes 35km at max speed i always use lights when im on it because at the end of the day it is me who could end up more hurt …..not to mention if the poor driver killed me the impact it would have on them …..bit that said some of these scooters are just way to fast there stupid fast and most the plonkers on them are idiots ……..its like why have a superfast car when you have to stick to the speed limit anyway
No.
Banning sale will resolve nothing – just help boom of black market.
All we need to do is for Guards to do their job. There are already laws in place to stop these from being used on the road.
Instead jumping straight to regulate/ban solution maybe for once we focus on education. If we start banning everything that has a potential of inconveniencing or endangering we could as well ban bicycles or shoes because someone saw one riding/walking on the red light.
The real problem here is lack of parental engagement, it is a mentality/education problem, not lack of regulations. We just banned scramblers, now scooters are the problem. We ban scooters and they will find something else.
Have to be 18 to own one. Should fix the issue with the 13-16 year olds causing mayhem.
Scooters that go 60kmh + are far and few between
