Not all countries “took” independence from the UK. Some asked and it was given and some decided on independence and it was accepted.

Hard to tell but it looks like the Falkland Islands, which are very much not independent, are there along with some other non-independent island territories.

Hong Kong was „gifted“ independence as well

Interesting how many that „took“ their independence ended up having civil wars, where the majority of those that were „given“ their independence didn’t.

I’m so glad we gained independence from ourselves.

England owned half of France, and Henry was even crowned King of France. Not quite the same but France certainly took back their independance.

This map also teaches us about how the tables have turned. Most of the countries that achieved independence from UK, now have a much stronger military than UK currently have. US, India ranks 1st and 4th in terms of military firepower , much more than UK. UK will not be able to protect themselves if NATO didn’t have it’s back.

Technically, Alaska shouldn’t be on this map as the US purchased from Russia in 1867 and gained independence in 1776 so it never gain independence from the UK.
