It’s because Hasidic Jews are an increasing percentage of Israel’s population and they have 6-7 kids on average
How much of this is just from the Haredi? Like half of their men don’t work so they can ’study the Torah full time,‘ and they pump out so many kids their population doubles every 20 years.
How much of this is driven by the ultra-Orthodox population? I don’t know much about them but what I do know is that they are mostly poor and known for having numerous children
Sad how much diversity is being lost to fanatics
This map is wrong. Saudi Arabia’s fertility rate is 2.29. And that’s one mistake out of multiple others. Check the numbers here
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_total_fertility_rate
Does the Israel data include Gaza and the West Bank? That would also push up the number since Gaza is at 3.31, we’ll above replacement rate, and higher than the Israel total.

Everyone is talking about Israel but I’m very surprised that Yemen, despite being in a civil war, is the only country maintaining such high levels of TFR. I know poverty is usually associated with higher fertility, but I would have expected that to apply as well to some other countries in the region, as well as the war affecting it temporarily.
Another ‚More conflict=Higher birthrate‘ correlation…I always assumed there is something about conflicts that increase birthrates because even in isolated societies like north korea has a declining birthrate.
I think it’s natural for a country based in immigration. Immigrants tend to have more kids everywhere. For example in 2023, the U.S. immigrant total fertility rate (TFR) was approximately 2.19 children per woman. The 90s aliyah wave post-USSR collapse explains a large proportion of population increases. There isn’t enough evidence that this high TFR is something intrinsic to the state of Israel given we haven’t seen what happens without that exogenous variable. I think it’s likely within a couple generations TFR would drop below 2 as it has everywhere else.
Wow. These numbers are much lower than i expected
I’m sure this won’t cause any trouble at all
I find now source whatsoever suggesting that iraqi TFR has dipped below 3. Source of 2,6?
I wonder how much of that is because of government policies that aim at dominating demographically the region
Make it one big Israel.
Lebanon is the lowest…if ONLY considering Lebanese citizens. If you count Palestinian and Syrian refugees they have a much higher birth rate, easily double the rate of that of the citizens
Why is north africa a part of middle East. Middle to what. Middle to who. The fuck is this.
It’s simple: our culture values having children. You’re not really an adult until you have a child, and there’s a huge amount of social pressure to have children. People who choose not to have children are seen by most people as psychologically damaged in some way. Fertility treatments are fully subsidized by the government up to 2 children (and partially subsidized after that), and single woman having kids on their own is socially accepted.
If you had a Jewish mom you would also give in and have a baby or two to make her happy
