If other school districts in Japan are like mine, they probably go out of their way to remind teachers to stop doing that shit and what happens legally to them if they do (according to the law text at least, what actually happens in court is anyone’s best guess), and also remind teachers that they are not supposed to have any private contact with the students unrelated to school and aren’t supposed to be alone with a student in an enclosed space (as far as it’s preventable). Yet, some people are just bad people. A while ago a teacher got caught doing bad things with a girl outside of school. Wasn’t a girl from his school either. Nobody would’ve thought it, he seemed like a normal guy and taught his classes like any other teacher.
In the end you can’t know what’s in someone’s head. I guess we can just hope that the law will keep cracking down harder to maybe scare off wannabees in the first place. But tbh while I am concerned about the ones who offend and get caught, I can’t help but wonder if there’s not many more who’d love to do the same but won’t for fear of consequences. Maybe it doesn’t matter when they don’t do anything illegal… But teachers having those thoughts is unnerving.
