Amazing place. I remember visiting there in the late 90s on a study trip. You could walk all the way up the spires on tiny winding stairs and see all of Barcelona spread out beneath you from the top peepholes. When I got back down my hands were shaking so much from the natural rush of altitude, I couldn’t use my camera or sketchbook.

I was in Barcelona 20 years ago, as a little girl, and I remember the main chamber. I recall looking up and seeing the glass lit up by sunlight from all angles, even on a cloudy day. The effect is arresting to say the least. A world wonder if there ever was one.

It’s hard not to respect the sheer persistence: 144 years, wars, destroyed plans, tech reinvented from rocket software to modern modeling, and it’s finally hit its full height. The Sagrada Familia is now as defining to Barcelona as the Eiffel Tower is to Paris.
