Pretty sure anybody in the world would be „struggling“ if the X-ray of their leg looked like that.

    2. Dr Hackett? Not sure that name would instill the calm I’d need going into surgery.

    3. About seventy percent of the events in the Winter Olympics are paired with bated breath and a desperate hope that the competitors don’t cause irreparable damage to themselves.

The commentators casually saying things like, ’she almost died last year when she broke her neck doing ski somersaults‘ don’t help.

      Her dog died too.

I definitely wouldn’t just be struggling if I were her. I would demand to be heavily sedated for awhile.

Am I the only one around here that thinks competing in a sport 8 days after a major injury is a fucking stupid thing to do?

    6. Aggressive_Wasabi_38 on

To not be that guy, but downhill skiing on a ruptured ACL – is not a great idea!

    7. WHY was she even competing in the first place? She knew something like this was possible and probably ill advised and still competed. Make it make sense.

Recovering from something like that is a long painful road.

The best case is everything locks back down and she is back to normal (maybe not skiing) life.

Worst case is her life is now going to be a long not very mobile slog.

Take away is, when you hit your 40s, your brain to muscle connection slows down.

And you really just shouldn’t be doing something that requires a super top level of physical ability and reaction time like olympic downhill skiing.

Football players make the same mistake as well.

You just have to get out of these sports after your 20s.

The slowness of brain to body just makes things super dangerous.

And now she really possibly f’d up the rest of her life from being active.

It was totally not worth it, and silly to think a 40 year old brain and body could handle it.

Did she have no friends to talk to her?

And coaches? They are definitely the most responsible.

    9. I’m sorry but can someone explain to me how she was even cleared to do this after rupturing her Acl 9 days before this accident? That seems really dumb to do

In other news, my 91 year old MIL, still doesn’t hydrate or eat properly

    11. How and why would they have cleared her. I understand $$$$ but damn. Disaster waiting to happen

    12. Im having surgery next month however will not video myself in the hospital

How is this girl an olympic hero if she crashed every time she skiis?

    14. The_BunnyMan_Woods on

She’s going to be horribly disfigured and in pain for the rest of her life as she ages.

You know when they say you don’t have an ACL and you ski anyway, what do you expect?

You can’t ride the correct line down the hill on one knee, she was overcompensating for it, took a too direct line, hit the gate. On two functioning legs, she would not have taken that line. Saying her knee had nothing to do with the crash is idiotic. And no, she wasn’t taking anyone’s spot on the team that would have had a chance to finish in the top 20.

I had an ankle break (it broke in 3 places) and a plate and multiple pins. I haven’t run since 2016. But I’m not a professional athlete (lol) and omg that looks like absolutely painful hell. I had to do 10 months of rehabilitation/Physical therapy to walk again. Plus, after learning from this thread her dog died.

Also, that she was injured doing her most passionate thing all combines into probably being an extremely emotionally dark place for her.

I hope she has all the emotional support she needs 😢

    18. BertMacklinMD on

I just hope she’s able to walk again. Really gruesome injuries she’s going through right now and the risk of infection is always there.

    19. That x-ray is insane. The pain she’s going to have later in life will probably be excruciating.

    20. Superguy766 on

I don’t feel sorry for her. It was her choice to compete with already destroyed knees. FAFO

    21. I will die on the hill that she shouldn’t have been competing after the acl injury.

Its almost like a heavily compromised limb suffers worse damage in major crashes because it already lacks stability.

Idiot. They should’ve never let her do this.
